Elton John‘s husband David Furnish had a strong, negative reaction to Madonna‘s Sunday night win at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. Like John, Madonna was nominated for Best Original Song, but when Adam Levine announced Madonna as the winner, neither John nor Furnished took it well. It seems like the start of yet another pop diva feud.
Finally acknowledging what most listeners could already hear and know, Madonna noted in a new interview with Newsweek that Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” bears a ridiculously strong resemblance to Madonna’s own “Express Yourself.” Madonna at least tried to be polite about it, however.
Well, it has been confirmed—after we reported to you in early October that Madonna was rumored to be the halftime performer for Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, it was announced over the weekend that Madge would indeed performing the show, and would be backed by Cirque du Soleil dancers.

Ugggghhhhh. After dazzling us last year with a mind-meltingly bad performance by the Black Eyed Peas, “the NFL has reportedly locked down Madonna to perform at the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show in February,” according to SB Nation (via Billboard). Which is awesome for fans of hyper-toned and muscular zombies who lip-synch, dance, and speak in false British accents as part of a wildly ego maniacal bid to give herself a false sense of aristocracy.
Remember back when Madonna was still releasing relevant music, and didn’t have to contend with a Lady Gaga that basically just took everything Madonna ever did, wrapped it up in some Bowie-isms, and totally got away with it? Well, looks like Madge is gonna try and remind you of the good ol’ days, as she’s planning on releasing her 12th studio album.
Pitchfork reports that indie folkster Joanna Newsom came out swinging in a recent interview with The Guardian, lambasting two female musicians whose dedication to image, in her opinion, completely supersedes their ability to actually make listenable music. Or, as she puts it, Lady Gaga’s music is all “glowsticks” and “Madonna’s a dumb-ass”:
It goes to show you—drop Madonna’s greatest hits into a blender, sprinkle a little Bowie on it and then cover it with AutoTune, and voila–you’re set. At least, according to MTV, who reports that pop oddball Lady Gaga has been named as one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People. But, before you exclaim that this validates Gaga’s artistry and brilliance and whatever else the kids in the comments wall will claim, know that while the list includes such luminaries as President Barack Obama, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and Apple’s Steve Jobs, it also features such immortal icons as Taylor Swift and Robert Pattinson. As for which camp Gaga will fall in, only time (or record sales, either way) will tell.
