Hip hop performer, radio host, America’s Got Talent judge and Mr. Mariah Carey—that’s Nick Cannon to you—is not exactly starting 2012 in his finest form. The “Gigolo” singer has been hospitalized for what is being described as a “mild” kidney failure.
Today in Pop Stars Say/ Do The Darndest Things!, a handful of our brightest pop stars (including Beyonce, 50 Cent, Usher, and Mariah Carey) are responding to the finger-pointing and accusations that have developed since it was revealed that they performed concerts put on by Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi (if you haven’t been around a television, computer, newspaper, magazine, radio, cell phone, or other human being in the past few weeks, you may have missed the news that Libya has been under severe scrutiny for crimes against humanity—oh and then there’s the whole state-sponsored terrorism thing of the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, approved by Gaddafi).
So I’m sure Mariah Carey has a totally reasonable explanation, aren’t you?
Mariah Carey made news a few days ago when it was announced that she and husband Nick Cannon are expecting their first child. However, it looks like the star still plans to keep busy while waiting for her offspring to arrive. On November 29th, Carey will debut her own brand of fragrance, jewelry and footwear on The Home Shopping Network. She will appear on the network that day to personally promote and sell the items being offered.
Just when we thought we were done with “crazy Mariah Carey” the outlandish alter ego of the Grammy winning singer decided to rear her head at the Palm Springs Film Festival. The singer turned actress has a supporting role in the acclaimed Lee Daniels film Precious, and won an award for her performance. When she went to accept it, all hell broke loose when she went into a random rant of giggles and pauses.
With Christmas coming up right around the corner, we know some of you may have already started blasting holiday music to get in the mood. Let’s face it, when we’re surrounded by our loved ones around this time of year it’s hard not to be jolly and have a go at songs like “Jingle Bell Rock!” We here at BeatCrave would like to provide you with some rad tunes for the holidays. Ever since Grammy winning hip hop artist Eminem stepped back on to the music scene, he’s been embroiled in drama. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, since the majority of his career has been shaped by controversy. Eminem’s latest or should I say recurring opponent is R&B singer Mariah Carey. A few years ago the rapper stated that both he and Mariah shared a fling together, which she adamantly denied. Since then Eminem and Carey have been feuding back and forth through music, and even Twitter via Carey’s husband Nick Cannon. Eminem recently released another diss track entitled “Warning” to put the singer back in her place. Is it just me or is this getting out of hand?

Whoever said that “music is a science” might want to keep quiet for a couple of minutes while we talk about Mariah Carey. While it’s never fun to have everything that comes out of one’s mouth sifted and analyzed, it’s interesting to every once in a while take a peak at the thought process behind a title. When singer Mariah Carey’s album was released to the masses last spring, little did she know that eventually an established mathematician would have something to say about her work.
E=MC2 was the follow-up to Carey’s 2005 release, The Emancipation of Mimi. It apparently strived to be clever via its title – in which E stands for “Emancipation”, while MC2 stands for “Mariah Carey times two.” Nice thought, cute even, except that Dr. David Leslie has this to say:
We all know the song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” by Mariah Carey. We hear it in the malls. Those lame easy listening radio stations play it non-stop. The song was even covered by that little girl in Love Actually. It can get annoying yet most people have just accepted the song as part of the holiday season. However, did you know that there are two versions of the music video?
The first version features a young innocent Mariah Carey with those brown curly locks. The Santa in the video is portrayed by her ex-husband Tommy Mottola (who headed Sony Music Entertainment – parent of the Columbia label for nearly 15 years). The second version is after her divorce with Tommy and instead of the colorful home video images, this video is filled with black and white images and dancers decked out retro-style – also with an addition of diva attitude from Mariah.

It’s that time of the year again. We see and hear the same things every year: The fake jolly santas who come off as creepy, the roasted almonds, the lights strewn over everything you can possibly think of (tacky and tasteful), but most of all the music. Yes, Christmas music can be annoying (How many versions of one song can there be?) but it just wouldn’t be the same without hearing those classics.
There are the traditional carols and hymns, and then there are the pop songs about Christmas. They’re the cheesy but damn catchy songs that make you blush when someone stares at you for humming along in the store. Three come to my mind right away: One sung by a talented but the worst of the divas, one sung by a flamboyant sexual being, and one well… A Beatle can never be bad but man, that chorus with the kids can get rough.
