Albums of the Week: The Bad, The Good – Destroyer Vs. Weezer

This week in music releases we got some interesting album features.  From Weezer to Destroyer to Jamiroquai, we got you covered on some of the best (and worst) new albums to pay attention to this week. Lollapalooza 2010 Photo Gallery: Day 1

Lollapalooza 2010 kicked off with a bang! We got a great work out from walking from one end of the festival to the other but each trek was well-worth it for all the artists we got to see on the first day. Besides, Friday’s headliner was Lady Gaga. Not many people are going to forget that whether they were thinking, “I love her!” or “She’s just creepy” or “This is too weird.” (We actually heard people say these thoughts out loud, by the way!)

However, we want to focus on all the other great acts that just offered us all they had: The music. There’s a special connection between an audience member and a band member when he or she speaks into the microphone. They can thank us for watching but we’re really just thankful they’ve brought the sounds. They can make jokes and we’ll chuckle and have a moment even though there are hundreds surrounding us. Check Lollapalooza Day 1 through our eyes with the photos below!

MTV VMA Breakthrough Video Nominees

Wednesday, August 5, 2009 9:26PM - By

MTV VMA Breakthrough Video NomineesThe MTV Video Music Awards released their nominees for Best Breakthrough Video earlier this week. Just like we were impressed with MTV’s Top Albums of 2009 list, we are amazed at how much depth this nominee list has.

The Breakthrough Video category have been absent from the awards show on and off for the past few years, but we’re excited to see it’s back. We’re especially elated that many of the video nominees feature a handful of indie artists! Artist videos include Bat for Lashes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Matt and Kim, Death Cab for Cutie and more. Now we know that the video filmmakers/directors get to take this award home, but we can’t help but think it’s rad that they’ve worked with some of our favorite artists.

Take a look after the jump and watch all the videos that made the list!

As I headed over to the Balance Stage I was surprised to see how large of a crowd gathered to see the enthusiastic and extremely fun duo from Brooklyn, Matt and Kim. Having seeing them before only in small venues, I questioned how well they would perform here at Pictchfork and to much enjoyment they did not disappoint.

Nothing like some good old fashioned streaking in Times Square. You go Matt and Kim! Don’t let the man get you down! Even when you’re being pummeled by the man. I wonder what their lessons they learned from making “Lessons Learned”? Possibly, wait for a warmer day to streak? Make sure to watch out for cops instead of looking up at tall buildings? Or that people in NY are surprisingly non-chalant to both streaking and police arresting people?

Check out their new video below…

 BeatCrave Fav: Matt and Kim

What can I say about Matt and Kim other than the fact that they are one of the best things to happen to parties and mosh pits! When their song, “Yeah Yeah,” gained so much popularity that it eventually got remixed by duo, Flosstradamus, we knew that Matt and Kim would begin to unleash the most insanely hyped up beats that were perfect for a night of chaos. They have yet to let us down, and we’re thinking it’s impossible now. The Brooklyn punk/pop/dance duo continues to give us great adrenaline-rushing songs one after another on their latest album, Grand. Also, I have to warn you: Do not hold a mixed drink at one of their shows. I repeat, do not hold a mixed drink at one of their shows, unless you want to be wearing your alcohol. Stick with the beer bottles… but then again, your teeth could easily get knocked out that way.

Check Matt and Kim out in our BeatCrave Fav series below! If you think they’re just as rad as I think they are, then vote for them in Friday’s poll!

Lily Allen Plays Secret MySpace Shows (1 in NYC with Matt & Kim!)

It’s no surprise that Lily Allen has agreed to promote her new album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, through MySpace Music. MySpace is what got Lily listeners and eventually a record deal. With that said, she will perform 3 intimate shows in New York, Tokyo, and London at no charge through the social media platform. That’s right – FREE. This is the first time an artist will participate in multiple MySpace Music secret shows on a global level.

For those of you in New York City, it’ll be happening on Februrary 10th (her US album release date) at The Bowry Ballroom. To get more details, all you have to do is become MySpace friends with MySpace Secret Shows Profile. You will then be notified of all details through a MySpace bulletin. It’s easy as that, and we already know one thing: Matt and Kim will be opening for her!

Also, beginning February 10th, Lily’s new album will be available to purchase for $3.99 for a limited time on her MySpace Music player through Amazon MP3.
