Hotshot filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Black Swan) has opted to do the very worst thing a human being in our day and age could possibly hope to do—legitimize the terrible (truly, just plain terrible) Metallica and Lou Reed collaborative album Lulu by directing a video for one of the songs.
Well, looks like Metallica fans in India have decided to give the Juggalos a run for their money—turns out that Metallica was set to play a show in Dehli this on Friday, but postponed the gig “after a security barrier in front of the stage collapsed.” So how did fans in India respond? By destroying the entire stage and the band’s equipment. Seems rational enough.
Because they are simply exploring a developing art form (and certainly not because they are a group of greedy middle-aged men desperately attempting to cling onto trendy cinematic flavor of the month in a queasy bid for both relevance and more money), Metallica is going to make a 3D movie. So, um, get excited?
Today in “seriously, you’ve got to be kidding… but, yeah, I guess it still sounds kind of cool” news: the once-insanely badass metal kingpins Metallica have teamed up and recorded a new album with alt-godfather and former frontman of the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed.
I’ll just let that sink in for a second.
Thrash metal fans, rejoice! (There’s gotta be a few still headbanging around.) After the Big Four of thrash–Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth–rocked Europe last year, concert promoters must have realized that there’s still an audience for that brand of music. Thus the show will be brought to Indio California and will be held the Saturday after Coachella, which also takes place there, according to the L.A. Times.
The rumor in regards to four of the biggest heavy metal bands coming together in one tour actually became a reality this month! Unfortunately, all you metal-heads in the States are seriously missing out since all the dates for this massive tour are happening overseas in Europe.
However, they’ve found a way to remedy to heal your broken black hearts! Metallica, Slayer, Megadeath and Anthrax will be broadcasting their tour date in Sofia, Bulgaria on June 22 to movie theaters all over the globe! Is there one near you? Find out after the jump!

We’ve already brought you her cover of Lady Gaga‘s “Bad Romance,” and now we have a live cover of Metallica‘s “Nothing Else Matters.” Yes, it’s quite the dramatic jump between the two genres but this is just credibility shown in the most flattering spotlight. Although Lissie may look like a frail damsel, don’t be fooled. Her voice has enough grit and power to take on big names such as Metallica. Check it out below!
In over-the-hill hard rock news: The Quietus reports that Black Sabbath and Metallica will be teaming up to release a limited edition (only 1,000 copies) split picture disc on April 17th, otherwise known as Record Store Day.
The vinyl disc, which will displays the band’s respective logos on either side, is set to feature an alternate version of Sabbath’s “Paranoid” (different lyrics), while Side 2 will feature Metallica’s “Frantic” as remixed by UNKLE. As only 1,000 copies of the record will be made available, it’s sure to become a collector’s item, though I’m going to assume that it’s the Black Sabbath side of the disc that’ll be moving units, rather than the already-available remix of one of Metallica’s worst songs from their undeniably worst album.
It’s Metallica time! A rare demo from Metallica — one of the most successful heavy metal bands of all time – has been dug up by the people over at The Metal Den. The demo is a recording of Diamond Head’s “Sucking My Love” featuring Lars Ulrich on drums, James Hetfield on vocals, and former members Dave Mustaine on guitar, Ron McGovney on bass.
