Another year – another season, mind – another music festival. When it gets old, you’ll be the first to know.
It’s hard to believe that the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is only three years young, but maybe that’s why it’s looking so good. The official lineup was announced today and things are ready and rearing to go this August 12-14. Stadium heavyweights Muse and Phish leading the pack with two sets, and such movers-and-shakers from Arcade Fire, MGMT, The Black Keys, The Decemberists and Erykah Badu, to our favorites Foster the People and oft-on-our-radar Grouplove and The Vaccines, will take on the various stages at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA.

Even when it seems as though half of the music you hear these days has been processed and auto-tuned to death, the fact is that there are still plenty of artists out there with raw talent, and the best way to recognize this is to catch their live shows. 2010 was a great year for concert-goers of all tastes. Whether you like country-pop, rap, indie rock, and whether you prefer festivals, concert series or solo tours, there was something for everyone this year.
Here’s a few of our favorites…

Usually, rock bands have to deny things like drug abuse, sexual harassment, drug abuse, and drug abuse. Perhaps it says something, then, that a band like MGMT instead has to deny the fact that they suck so much live that disappointed fans pelt them with cups full of urine.

Well, it’s that time of year again, in which we all flood towards Chicago for all the same bands we saw at Coachella now Rubiks-cubed with a handful of other acts and headliners for three days of music, humidity, and wildly overpriced bottled water and pizza. It’s time for Lollapalooza 2010.
And while Beatcrave will be offering up a list of the Top 5 bands you must see at this year’s Lolla, I thought I’d slip you a handy primer of the five bands you must avoid at all costs if you’d like to have a pleasant time in Chicago this weekend (and if you have good taste). From hipster blog golden calves to appallingly plastic pop divas to ’90s rock jokes, these are the bands whose sets you can miss in order to nap, grab a slice of $20 pizza, or take an annoying picture of yourself in crowd with a band onstage behind you for your Facebook profile pic. Just remember — you’ve been warned.

MGMT stopped by local Columbus, Ohio radio station CD101.1FM last week to play several acoustic tracks from their latest album, Congratulations. Settling comfortably in “The Big Room,” an intimate set up the station has put in place to give listeners an informal, up close listen to their favorite artists, the boys gave a clean performance.

Vinyl fans it is time to rejoice–Record Store Day is upon us tomorrow, that special day when our favorite artists release a dizzying array of obscure or unreleased material on vinyl for their hardcore fans and record fetishists.
Rolling Stone took time out from obsessing/ cultishly worshiping (with goat sacrifices and everything!) every retirement-age rock star within spitting distance to list a few late, but very exciting, additions to Record Store Day release lineup:

Ok, festival kids, the Coachella set times are now up, and the inevitable queasy feeling in your stomach can now begin as you decide which favorite acts you’ll be missing, or only catching a part of, in order to watch MGMT suck for 50 minutes (kidding, kidding—but not really, as MGMT really do suck, guys). Owing to a slightly more spread-out schedule than in recent years, with (for myself anyway) fewer must-see bands clumped together, there aren’t as many conflicts as one might think.

In support of their album, Congratulations, the uber-hipster and psychedelic pop duo MGMT will be going on a world tour. There are just as many dates crammed into this tour as there are crazy genre changes in their single, “Flash Delirium,” and it all starts today in Sydney, Australia at Metro Theatre. The tour will have them wrap around the globe as they come back to the west coast of the US, fly back over to Europe and end in Lisbon, Portugal in December.
Congratulations is officially slated for release on April 13th via Columbia but you can listen to the entire album at their official website. Check the tour dates out below to see if they’re stopping in a city near you!
