The question of the day is: If you had a $10,000 tuft of the late entertainment genius Michael Jackson’s hair, what would you do with it? An online gambling site bought a small portion of hair from online memorabilia merchant Gotta Have Rock & Roll for $10,871 and plan to convert that piece of hair into none else but a roulette ball. What? You wouldn’t pay 10K for a small piece of some dead guy’s hair and make a useless roulette ball out of it? Seriously, they’re an online gambling site. What use do they have for a real roulette ball anyway?

It’s that time again, gang—Thanksgiving weekend is upon us. With the beginning of the holiday season comes a time to begin making a list of the things we are all thankful for, and we here at Beatcrave have made our own special list. A catalogue of the five musical moments that pleased us the most in 2012, our list contains such news items as a major pop band’s hiatus (thank God it finally happened), a rock ‘n roll idol ending months of rumors that he may be retiring by announcing a new tour, the announcement that someone was a “Douchebag,” a surprise baby-daddy announcement, and more. It was a weird year for music, but these five items gave us something to be thankful for.

Because the necrophilic love affair with and endless cash-ins on Michael Jackson’s death show no signs of slowing at all, it was announced this week that Michael Jackson’s estate (that shadowy organization of Jackson family members you see walking around Los Angeles saying “ch-ching ch-ching ch-ching!”) is pushing to make a Michael Jackson biopic. And you can guess which parts of his life it will be leaving out.

After an exhausting six week trial and nine hours for the jury’s official decision, Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter yesterday afternoon. Michael Jackson‘s family are rightfully relieved; the King of Pop was prepared for his comback tour, This Is It, when Murray administered the deadly dose of propofol to Jackson without properly supervising his patient or taking proper steps after he stopped breathing.

Over three years after Michael Jackson‘s untimely death and days of postponement, the trial of overdose-prescribing-physician Dr. Conrad Murray began in Los Angeles today. Initially slated to be televised (who would turn off The Ellen Show to watch a trial?), Murray’s non-guilty plea to felony involuntary manslaughter was heartily contested with toxicology reports and images of Jackson’s corpse.

Well… I suppose it was bound to happen eventually… but did it have to happen this way? DID IT, AMERICA? I feel kind of like Charlton Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes… “All the time it was… we finally really did it. YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP! OH, D*** YOU! GODD*** YOU ALL TO HELL!”
Ahem. Of course, I’m talking about how Katy Perry has now tied the record with Michael Jackson for the most Number One songs from a record on the Billboard Top 100 chart.

Because it’s been too long since his name was last dragged throughout the news, Michael Jackson’s family released a statement today, saying that they are “denying their support for a concert paying tribute to the late King of Pop scheduled for October 8th in Cardiff, Wales.”

Because enough of a spectacle wasn’t made when Michael Jackson died and we all pretended like we’d never stopped loving him since the mid-90s, Billboard reports today that Michael Jackson manslaughter trial will be—sigh—televised. This should go well. Expect subtle coverage from the cable news networks, who I’m sure will handle this situation with same deft, quiet dignity as they have in the past.

Anytime a collection of rare photos of Michael Jackson hits the auction block, it’s not a question of whether anyone will be interested, rather how much someone is willing plop down when the hammer falls.
In this instance, it’s photos snapped in Paris from 1999 up for grabs; the 90 lots featured portraits, prints and contact sheets, which reeled in 196,000 euros ($265,000 dollars) at the Pierre Berge and Associes auction house in Paris late Monday.
The portrait of the late singer bare-chested and draped in a golden cape nabbed the top price at 26,000 euros ($34,880).
