It’s a sad day for those who love that red telephone-microphone. Los Angeles punk-noise band and darlings of the beloved Smell scene, Mika Miko, is wrapping up their musical contributions to the indie world.
We’ve covered them at Sunset Junction and FYF Fest this year and since both shows (and numerous others) were nothing less than phenomenal, we’re more than just a little bummed to hear this as well. The quintet’s guitarist, Michelle Saurez, has told the Los Angeles Times, “There’s no bad blood at all, we’re all still really good friends.” Then why not keep on making music with your friends? Sunset Junction continued for Day 2 on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. It was still hot but my comfort level was much higher than it was during the previous day. The sun was just hot enough and it set just at the right time providing the perfect breeze for acts such as Fool’s Gold, The Sonics, and Built To Spill.
The ticket booth was all ready to go and going through the media guest list was as easy as pie yesterday. My photographer and I walked in just in time to see Love Grenades kick the festival off.
Check it all out in our recap of Day 2! Of course, we have more live photo galleries for you as well!

While we are still mourning the life of a legend and musical icon, here are some of the stories going around in the music world:
- Post-humos Michael Jackson is creating a buzz. This time by dominating the UK charts for both albums and singles. According to NME, he scored the number one album and almost a quarter of entire top 200 single countdown. List of where he lies on the chart for both albums and singles are available. (NME)
- During their headlining set at Glastonbury’s Jazz World Stage, pop superstars Black Eyed Peas paid tribute to the King of Pop, who passed away on June 25th. Of the global icon, band member Will.i.am had kind words: “He was a friend and we’re gonna miss him very much. Thank you very much for all you’ve done, I’m gonna miss you.” More info on their performance is available including a full list of the songs played and why the crowd booed them early in the set.
