The Smithsonian may be honoring the King of Rock and Roll today but for Elvis Presley‘s 75th birthday, musician Lightspeed Champion (aka Dev Hynes) has offered us a free download and a video.
The track is a cover of Presley’s 1963 song, “(You’re the) Devil in Disguise,” and it manages to stay true to the sound of the 60s but we also hear Hyne’s baroque and folk pop touch on his spin. Take a listen below!

It’s almost here! In March, a Pavement compilation album will be released to kick off the new decade! Although it’s not a greatest hits or a new album, we’re glad Pavement is doing any type reunion at all and we can’t say much about how they want to release an album during this brief but glorious time.
The compilation album is titled Quarantine of the Past: The Best of Pavement, but keep in mind that it’s not a greatest hits album. So what are they considering the best of their repertoire and more importantly, what have you got to do with the track listing? Find out after the jump!

Halloween is almost here and you’re almost ready to welcome it with open arms. You’ve got your cool costume, loads of candy corn and gummy boogers and a copy of the original Night of the Living Dead — but hold on, you’re missing one thing — spooky music. Now I’m not going to bombard you with cool music for Halloween that you can’t afford, so I’ve compiled a list of free mp3 downloads that I found while snooping around the internet. Take your pick and add it to your Halloween playlist.
The list ranges from Michael Jackson‘s Thriller (which is sure to be Halloween favorite this year), to I Put A Spell On You (my personal favorite). Simply click on the song and it will take you where you need to go to get your free download.

Vampire Weekend created a buzz all on their own through their website today when they had a clock count down to 2:30 pm EST. Although they didn’t say what they were counting down to, we had a pretty good hunch that it would be the unveiling of the debut single from their upcoming album, Contra, and… we were right!
“Horchata” is officially the lead single (and first track) off of their sophomore album. The track about a popular Mexican, milky, and sweet rice drink has a familiar light feeling accented by addictive percussion choruses, but also includes a nice string orchestra arrangement. When we revealed the cover art for Contra, the band told us that although some songs would have their signature sound, others would have new sounds. Strings are always a nice touch, so we’re curious to see what other tricks they have up their sleeves.
Take a listen to “Horchata” below! Also, check out the West Coast tour dates.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard new material from electro-funk duo, Chromeo. Fancy Footwork was a huge hit with with us and we want more than just a deluxe edition of that!
We understand that they’ve kept busy with remixing everyone from Feist to Vampire Weekend, hanging out with Darryl Hall from Hall and Oates (kismet!), and telling kids to lather up but there isn’t another duo who combines the sound of the past and present quite like Dave 1 and P-Thugg. We demand another album full of dance anthems!

Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner, aka The Raveonettes, are known for their tight-knit dual harmonies laid above hard-edged distortion and have managed to successfully combine dark, murky, noise rock with catchy surfer melodies since 2003.
Their latest album, In and Out of Control, is slated for an October 6 release via Vice Records. The album is highly anticipated since the band has let their fans in on the recording process. Although their request for feedback was criticized by some in the industry, The Raveonettes never needed to come to terms with how their fans felt vs. how they would execute the album… Continue Reading

Alice in Chains have released a new song entitled “A Looking In View” today on iTunes. The band, which was one of the main bands of the so-called Grunge movement in the early 1990s, was basically considered finished when vocalist Layne Staley died of an overdose in 2002. However, the surviving members of the band, which came out of the same Seattle area as fellow prominent bands Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, has since enlisted a new vocalist, by the name of William DuVall.
Before I heard this new song, I was apprehensive at best, as I always am when bands replace singers. Staley was the main focal point of Alice in Chains, so the prospect of replacing his thunderous voice made me skeptical. “A Looking In View”, though, BLEW ME AWAY. DuVall channels Staley so well it’s eerie. The track sounds like it belongs on one of AIC’s albums in the early 1990s. I almost can’t believe it came out today. I think this reinvention of Alice in Chains might just work, as DuVall seems more than capable of handling the singing duties.

The infamous electronic duo, MSTRKRFT, are at it again, this time releasing an infectious new version of their single “Bounce” only a month after the release of their highly anticipated second album, Fist of God. All these guys do is party and for this version of the song, they added professional party animal, Pitbull. The Miami rapper spits a verse about his typical parties, “three or four broads and they all like ooooh,” you’ll have to listen to the track for yourself to see where that’s going. If you’re headed to Coachella along with some of our writers, make sure you catch MSTRKRFT closing out Saturday night at the Sahara tent starting at 11PM.
You can listen and download the MP3 “Bounce: feat. N.O.R.E & Isis” and watch the video below…
