The Mars Volta’s album Octahedron, due for release next week, is now available on Myspace (link) in its entirety for you to listen to. The bold offering emulates other bands that have streamed entire albums online like Wilco and Grizzly Bear.
It’s Volta’s fifth studio-recorded release, and the track Octopaxi reminds me a bit of the famous debut album De-Loused in the Comatorium. Check out the full track list below:

Online social networking site Myspace, has launched a karaoke service in Japan, expanding its musical reach to the nation loaded with lovers of the sing-along entertainment. MySpace Karaoke has logged more than eight million visitors since it launched in May of last year in Canada and the United States, and lets users post videos of themselves singing on the site.
“If you had told me years ago we would launch an online karaoke site in Japan, I would have told you it is like selling ice to the Eskimos,” said MySpace Karaoke general manager Nimrod Lev. “Boy was I wrong. It seems like the land of karaoke has nothing even close to that. We met with all the leading companies there and they loved what they saw.”

English musician, Peter Doherty (of The Libertines), has an awesome new album, entitled “Grace/Wastelands,” that is being released on March 24th. I am pleased to say, it’s a great album, and it is being streamed, as we speak, on MySpace Music. Though not as sharp and intense as his previous bands, The Libertines or Babyshambles, Doherty still impresses with a list of mostly calm and moody songs. This album reveals him as more than what most people had taken him for (a punk drug addict who loved to shock). It does help however that this album was produced by Smith’s and Blur producer, Stephen Street.

The Glastonbury music festival, UK’s top music festival, doesn’t handle things the way American music festivals do. Instead of telling people the make-up of the year’s lineup, the festival’s organizers sell tickets before anyone knows who will be performing. It seems to work, as the tickets sold out quickly this year, even though the festival requires people who want tickets to pre-register, which requires the submission of contact information and a passport photo. If that happened in this country, people would complain like crazy that the festival couldn’t legally collect such information.

Ambitious M.I.A. was cutting it close on that Grammys Sunday! Apparently, she was going to go out and party with everyone afterwards (no surprise there), but changed her mind at the last minute. Well, it’s a good thing she did because she went into labor at 2 AM that night! She gave birth to a boy on Wednesday and sounds pretty psyched to be a new mommy.
Read about it in her own charming words below! (She even included a disturbing “Preggo Shuffle” video.)

One of our favorite Brit-pop girls, Lily Allen, is getting ready to release her new album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, on February 10th (a day after the release in the UK). However, since Lily got her start through cyberspace and especially through MySpace, she is being nice enough to let us hear the album even before the big day. The entire album can be heard on her MySpace page as of right now. Her two bigger hits, “Smile” and “Everything’s Just Wonderful,” from her previous album are still included on there as well.
Does Lily Allen still have the same wit we loved on the first album?
