Are you ready for some old school record action? This weekend marks the annual WFMU Record Fair in NYC. To celebrate, Warner Bros. Records is bringing vinyl to the people by hosting a booth you’ve got to check out.
Warner Bros. Records General Manager Tom Biery calls himself a vinyl freak and admits that there is not better place than the WFMU show to sell music directly to fans.
“I have been going to the show for years and have always thought that having a WBR/Reprise booth to sell our records would be a ton of fun as well as a great learning experience.”
If you’re anything like us, then one of the reasons you love the summer time is because music festivals overpower the season. Music festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Glastonbury the weather worth it. So what’s next on our social calendar? Glastonbury.
Being the world’s largest music festival, Glastonbury will proudly feature some memorable performers starting next Friday, June 26th, in the open farmland space in South West England. This year will bring renown musicians like Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, and the return of Blur, to the famous Pyramid stage. Other groundbreaking performers at this year’s Glastonbury include Bloc Party, The Prodigy, Franz Ferdinand, Brand New, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (they’re everywhere).

Excitement is hard to contain for the upcoming Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Spain from May 28-30. The schedule has been released, and tickets are on sale right now. The schedule is ridiculously huge, with simultaneous shows of must-see bands spread out across no less than six stages. A quick look at the lineup immediately presents some difficult decisions.
Some of the highlights on Thursday 28 include Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Marnie Stern, The Jesus Lizard and The Bug. Friday, the Pitchfork stage looks like a good hangout, with The Mae Shi, but don’t stay put for long as you’ll also want to try and check out Shellac and Tokyo Sex Destruction. The festival schedule is available by artist name, stage, and day, or you can take a look at the full schedule (pdf). Tell us your favorite bands after the cut:
Neil Young, is taking it his activism on the road with him! He’s currently touring for his upcoming album, Fork in the Road, and in support of developing different fuel possibilities, his 1959 Lincoln Continental is now powered by alternative energy and he feels like singing about it, from inside for it! So he’s managed to rig a small camera and make some music videos.

Neil Young has voiced his support for Warner Music Group’s policy of muting and deleting music videos on Youtube, after negotiations between the two media giants failed. We’ve covered Warner’s draconian tactics in the past, and now Neil Young defends that Warner needs to be better compensated by posting the following on his site:
“You Tube was in its fledgling stages when Warner made an early deal to work with them. Today, other labels have made more lucrative deals for their artists at You Tube.”
It seems that media personality Ryan Seacrest may be developing what I like to call “Kanye-complex” or “Joaquin-itis.” In an apparent attempt to get some attention for being the first on the ball, Seacrest got blog-happy and posted an alleged official Coachella lineup yesterday on his website. Here’s what it broke down to:
Friday: Nine Inch Nails, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Katy Perry (really…?)
Saturday: Neil Young, the Killers, Primus, TV on the Radio …
Sunday: Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Chemical Brothers …
Goldenvoice has since denied all of Seacrest’s predictions (and he subsequently removed the post from his blog), but online music zine Defamer has released a series of updates that restates a few (but not all) of Kanye’s… ahem… I mean, Seacrest’s claims. Defamer didn’t name an official source for it, but their completed lineup looks like this:
In 1968 Neil Young was about to release his very first solo album, having just left his previous band Buffalo Springfield. While very few people actually knew who he was, Young was able to sell out a performance at the Canterbury House in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Now, 40 years later Neil Young and Reprise Records are releasing the performance that night as part of the Archives Performance Series. The disc is expected to be released officially on December 2nd, but you can stream it now (as well as read more about that original performance) on NPR’s website.
