With our BeatCrave Fav series, we are highlighting new bands that we think will be big someday and let you vote for your favorite in a poll. We suppose Adult Swim (along with their partner, Burger King?) is trying to do the same things for people who create ridiculously outlandish, over the top, inappropriate cartoons that make you feel like you’ve committed a sin after watching. We can’t say much though; everyone has their own thing. In this case, it’s just some appalling stuff paired with humor.
It’s a bummer Neko Case’s stellar Middle Cyclone didn’t win a Grammy Sunday night for either Best Contemporary Folk Album or Best Recording Package. In an alternate universe Case would be battling it out for Record of the Year and Album of the Year, but this is the Grammys we’re talking about, and we’d literally have to be living in an alternate universe for the Recording Academy to show any type of enlightened thinking.
Somewhere on the red carpet, in the midst of ready-made Grammy nominees like Beyonce and Taylor Swift, Spinner caught up with Case to ask how she felt being part of the awards show.
It doesn’t seem like we hear much from Jakob Dylan these days, not like back when he was leading The Wallflowers and songs like “6th Avenue Heartache” and “One Headlight” owned the airwaves. But the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter is back with a second solo album, Women and Country, due for release on April 6.
That’s great news. But the story gets better because Dylan has enlisted none other than Neko Case, and fellow alt-country singer Kelly Hogan, who provide back-up vocals to eight of the album’s 11 tracks.

Think of this news as a really (really) awesome, belated Christmas gift: The New Pornographers have just wrapped up recording their fifth studio album. Joy.
Exclaim reports that on New Year’s Eve, Pornographer’s frontman Carl (A.C.) Newman wrote on his Twitter, “Just finished the next New Pornographers album, I am pretty damn sure.”

John Mellencamp has put together an all-star cast for his new musical, Ghost Brothers Of Darkland County. According to Pollstar, Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Costello, Rosanne Cash, Sheryl Crow and Neko Case are among the big names starring in the show, which makes its big debut in Atlanta, Georgia at the Alliance Theater on September 10.
Mellencamp and author Stephen King have been collaborating on the project for ten years.

While most of the artists selected for BeatCrave’s Fav are relatively new and sometimes relatively unknown, today’s entry falls under either of the aforementioned categories. Neko Case has been belting out unique tunes since the release of “The Virginian” (with her boyfriends) in 1997. Since that time, Case has release several solo albums and has sung lead vocals on many New Pornographers tracks. With the release of ”Midele Cylcone” last week, Case has proven, once again, that she is a force to be reckoned with in the indie music world.
Not only is she well on her way to becoming an indie legend, Neko Case is also today’s BeatCrave Fav. Enjoy!
Neko Case brought sounds from her latest album, Middle Cyclone, to Leno last night as she performed “People Got A Lotta Nerve.” Case looked classy in her slim black dress and she sounded just as great. This woman never disappoints me in songwriting or poise.
