The Who: Noah and the Whale (2:00 pm, Monday at the Bigfoot Stage)
What you should know: There is no one named Noah or a whale in the band. The name comes from a mix of the band’s favorite film and that films director. They are a four piece group of well dressed men.

This week’s pics were a tricky batch — most albums got mixed reviews from many critics ranging from good to bad, no matter what album or which band. We’ve rounded up some of these reviews and compiled what looks like a good list of the best and worst albums out this week, but it’s always the best idea to check out these albums and make the decision for yourself:

Are super groups to music as 3-D effects are to movies? Is this just a fad that’s come back around only to go out of style or take a hiatus? We can’t say anything definite about that but we do know that both super groups and 3-D effects enhance our memories of hearing and seeing. It’ a question to think about since such a large (and random) amount of musicians have come together in form of a new band.
At this rate, there might be as many super group bands as there are movies released in 3-D! Okay, maybe that’s a bit presumptuous but can you blame us when we’ve got Mt. Desolation to add to the bunch?

I live in Los Angeles and my interviews with artists from other states or countries usually begin with idle conversation about the weather. I spoke to an upbeat sounding Noah, a multi-cultural electronic musician, who described the snowy conditions in his home town of Ottawa and consequently reaffirmed my existence in Southern California.
Noah has good reason to be upbeat. His debut album is set to be released digitally via i-Tunes worldwide on the 10th March and all this might never have happened if his parents had stayed in one place. He describes his music as “dance music but not just dance music.” So what does that mean?

Noah and the Whale are not only working on a new album, they’re working on a new film as well. Matt Owens, the groups bassist told the BBC:
“We are making a visual accompaniment to the record, so that you can go and see a film with the soundtrack fitting perfectly to it… Once we’ve set it visually people are gonna come to it and be more likely to follow it from beginning to end, rather than cut in between bits. We live in quite a ‘soundbite’ age. Anything you can do to promote people just sitting down and spending time with the record is a far more rewarding experience.”

Sadly, Noah and the Whale have had to cancel their North American Tour (Gasp!). Apparently crossing the pond during the winter is just to difficult (they must have been coming via boat). The band has promised to come back in March, after they have hibernated with their album through the cold winter months. But I won’t make any excuses for them. Here is what they had to say about canceling their tour…
