Oh, great.  This is exactly what the world needs:  Perhaps because they realize no one is really ever, ever going to care about their solo work, and that they will forever be associated as the smug, smarmy punks that thought they were better than the every other band since the Beatles, the members of Oasis are already facing the depressing fact that they will probably reunite soon to cash in on nostalgia for a band that was only very briefly broken up.

The forthcoming Oasis greatest hits album, Time Flies, will play ‘like a gig’ says the former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.

Gallagher revealed the track-listing to Time Flies… 1994-2009 in a video on the band’s official Youtube channel. He also explained his strategy behind the final sequence of tracks that make up the 27 singles featured on the compilation.

Remember in 2008, when some seemingly random man—really a contractor named Daniel Sullivan—went on a rampage on a Toronto stage and attacked Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher during a gig, breaking three of Gallagher’s ribs during the Virgin Music Festival set?  And remember how you kind of wanted to give the guy a medal, or at least a pretty decent fruit basket for finally being the one to deliver a long-deserved ass-kicking to the snotty songwriter?  Well, yesterday the Ontario Court of Justice decided instead that some punishment was due.

NME reports that the newly reunited Brit-pop/ English alternative rockers Suede headlined at London’s Royal Albert Hall last night as “part of the Teenage Cancer Trust’s series of gigs at the London venue.”

The supposedly one-off reunion gig – featuring the band’s second lineup – was the band’s first official performance, not counting two warm-up gigs, since December 13, 2003.  It was an apparently moving experience for all involved, with the audience laying down a “massive” standing ovation halfway through the set, prompting a “visibly moved” Suede frontman Brett Anderson to exclaim, “we haven’t finished yet!”

After 18 years together, Oasis has broken up because Noel Gallagher decided to quit back in August. Brothers Liam and Noel could never get along within the band. Despite their success, their tension within the group was always the media’s focus.

Although Oasis has broken up for good this time – Liam says so – the group will somewhat go on. They just won’t go on as using the same name.

Now that Noel Gallagher has quit Oasis, clearly he has newly freed up time once occupied by playing “Champagne Supernova” every night and arguing with his brother, Liam.

So what’s a rock star to do?

Enter Kasabian. Lead singer Tom Meighan has said he would “love” the band to record a track with their friend Noel Gallagher, according to NME. Meighan said he hoped Gallagher and the band could find their way together into the studio together – eventually.
