Well, here’s a first—as noted by Billboard, for the first time since Nielsen SoundScan began keeping track of music sales way back in 1991, the same album remained the bestselling album in the United States for two years in a row. That’s right, Adele’s 21 was the number one bestselling album in the United States in 2012… just like it was in 2011.

Because it’s inexplicably 1999 all over again, a British boy band, One Direction, has now become “the first UK group to debut at No. 1 in the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart,” confirming both the deluded madness of the record buying public, as well as the Mayan prophecy that dictated a pre-fabricated group of young men who dance to lip-synched harmonies shall finally bring about the end of all things in the year 2012.
