Another year – another season, mind – another music festival. When it gets old, you’ll be the first to know.
It’s hard to believe that the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is only three years young, but maybe that’s why it’s looking so good. The official lineup was announced today and things are ready and rearing to go this August 12-14. Stadium heavyweights Muse and Phish leading the pack with two sets, and such movers-and-shakers from Arcade Fire, MGMT, The Black Keys, The Decemberists and Erykah Badu, to our favorites Foster the People and oft-on-our-radar Grouplove and The Vaccines, will take on the various stages at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA.

Our time up in San Francisco went by faster than we had hoped! Outside Lands Festival 2010 was literally a nice breath of fresh air compared to festivals like Coachella. It also had that breeze we didn’t get at Lollapalooza the weekend before. Most of all, it had a lot of hippies who just wanted to share the love… man. To see everything from your favorite bands such as Empire of the Sun, Chromeo, My Morning Jacket and more, enjoy our Outside Lands Festival 2010 photo gallery of ALL the photos we took.
We’ve also broken our photos down into each individual day: Saturday and Sunday. However, if you’d like to take a look at all our photos at once, we’ve got every single one of them below for you!

80,000 people showed up at Golden Gate Park to enjoy music, food and wine at the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival and as an added bonus they were also helping the local community. The festival raised nearly $3 million (in total over 3 years of the festival) which they are giving in full to the local Recreation and Park Department.

Sunday closed out the two-day music festival that is Outside Lands and our chance to take in San Franciscan air came to an end much too soon. If you liked the artists we’ve covered on Saturday, just wait and see who we got to catch on Sunday.
There were plenty of acts ranging from Slightly Stoopid to Al Green to The Devil Makes Three and we were there to capture as much as we could for you. There were a few acts we had previously seen at Lollapalooza such as Phoenix, Chromeo, Social Distortion and more but that didn’t mean they weren’t good enough for repeat spectators like us. See Sunday’s OSL acts through our eyes with our photos below!

Empire of the Sun has been everywhere lately. The Australian synth-pop duo was just at Lollapalooza last weekend. They played four sold out shows in Los Angeles and they also were one of the last acts to close Outside Lands Festival out this weekend up in San Francisco.
When the duo first announced they were releasing music together, fans of PNAU and The Sleepy Jackson rejoiced. However, for those who only knew their hit single, “Walking On A Dream,” were about to step into a drastically different chaotic world on Sunday night. The question lingers around whether or not everybody decided to buy into this world which merely distracts one from the music.

If you’re an avid BeatCrave reader, you know that we tend to focus on the indie rock acts. When there’s such a wealth of great music in the genre, it would be a shame not to provide coverage. However, we also have to remember that the big names started small somewhere and genre doesn’t really matter anymore when the artistry surpasses silly labels. Also, since we were into the groove soul, r&b and funk vibe throughout Sunday, it only made sense we included some hip hop and Reggae. We hear Phoenix had a pretty great set at Outside Lands Festival, but a set from Nas with a Marley was to good to pass up.

It was only an hour or so until the sun would start to set at Outside Lands Festival and electro-funk duo, Chromeo, was also taking the stage. Promoting their upcoming album, Business Casual (which comes out on September 14th in the States), the duo has been been all over the nation playing old and new songs. In fact, they were just in Chicago last weekend while we were there for Lollapalooza.
Their set up for OSL differed from their stage at Lolla. This time, their equipment was set up closer to each other since it was just Dave 1 and P-Thugg rocking it up there for us this time. Last weekend, they may have had Robert Palmer-like back up dancers (which was perfect for songs like “Night By Night”) but they did come to SF toting those famous Fancy Footwork keyboard stands again.

Outside Lands Festival had a lot of great things going for them this weekend. San Francisco has an irresistible charm to it and the festival grounds, themselves, had great food, a great outdoor atmosphere, great drinks (beer and wine tasting), but out of all the festivals we’ve been to this year, OSL could have had a stronger line up.
However, the upside is there when you looked at some key individual acts. Perhaps, then, the lineup in its entirety didn’t matter to you as much. Personally, Al Green was one of these artists that trumped the festival headliner. I wasn’t going to take any chances on missing out on the critically-acclaimed Soul, Gospel and R&B singer.

With the release of her highly-anticipated album, The ArchAndroid (Suites II and Suite III), Janelle Monae has certainly stepped up in the game of true and talented entertainment. Personally, Ms. Monae was one of the artists I was most excited to see at this year’s Outside Lands Festival. However, with my busy schedule of stage hopping, the singer-songwriter and dancer wounded my warm and fuzzy elation when I was stung with the news that her set would be starting 15 minutes late.
