Nice touch by Paul McCartney who paid tribute to Jimi Hendrix during his 27-song, career-spanning performance last night as he closed the Isle of Wight Festival.

McCartney dropped in a few bars of “Purple Haze” at the end of “Let Me Roll It,” a special tribute to Hendrix to mark the 40th anniversary of the guitar god’s legendary performance at the festival. It was the last major event for Hendrix before he died a few weeks later.

Paul McCartney An Almost Member of Them Crooked Vultures Apparently, Paul McCartneys Dead

Because no one has ever, ever misinterpreted the lyrics of the Beatles or their message, MVD Visual has announced the release of a DVD entitled PAUL McCARTNEY REALLY IS DEAD, The Last Testament of George Harrison, which continues and builds upon the hoax that Paul McCartney was killed in a 1966 car accident and replaced by a double, based on supposed clues in the Fab Four’s lyrics.  Plus, the disc is being co-released by a distribution company known as Wienerworld, so you know it’s gotta be true.

According to MVD’s press release:

Watch Paul McCartney Sing along With President Obama Jack White Dave Grohl Watch: Paul McCartney Sing along With President Obama, Jack White, Dave Grohl

We previously shared the news with you about Paul McCartney receiving one of the highest honor in pop music. Last night he went on over to the White House to take the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song but, of course, Paul McCartney doesn’t just show up to a place without putting on a classic “would’ve been cool to be there” kind of shows.

During the ceremony, there were musical offerings from the Beatle as he serenaded first lady, Michelle Obama, with – you guessed it – the song, “Michelle.” However, the house full of celebrities and musicians really threw it down when everyone joined in for a sing-along during “Hey Jude.” Check the video out below!

EMI has got to be wondering when the mercy rule kicks in. The struggling label is losing Paul McCartney, who announced Tuesday (April 20) that he’s planning to reissue his post-Beatles catalogue through indie label Concord Music Group.

When McCartney’s licensing deal with the London-based EMI recently ended, the Beatle’s legend handed over his entire catalog of post-Beatles albums – totaling about two dozen releases covering solo work and Wings albums – over to Concord, reports Billboard.

paul mccartney studio dad Paul McCartney Hopes Abbey Road Can Be Saved

Following yesterday’s bummer news that iconic Abbey Road studios has been put on the chopping block by cash-strapped EMI, Paul McCartney has already chimed in by stating that he hopes the Abbey Road studios in London can be saved.

That’s a nice sentiment from McCartney, but is it unreasonable to ask why the legendary Beatle just doesn’t buy the studios himself?

U2 and Paul McCartney Fall Short Of Oscar Nominations U2 and Paul McCartney Fall Short Of Oscar Nominations

There were 63 songs in the running for an Oscar nomination this year, so the nominees for the final cut this year went from three to five – and we previously reported Randy Newman leading the selective top five songs for the big day. Although we’re a little bummed about Karen O and some other indie artists not being able to have a Swell Season-Grammy moment, we’re still excited for the nominees this year. The Princess and the Frog brought us back to the old Disney days with those two tunes, Newman should be proud for the work he’s put into material.

Paul McCartney An Almost Member of Them Crooked Vultures Paul McCartney: An Almost Member of Them Crooked Vultures

We all remember when we first heard there was going to be a super group called Them Crooked Vultures. We all remember how excited we got when we discovered the members would be musicians from three great and influential bands. Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl, Led Zeppelin‘s John Paul Jones, and Queens of the Stone Age‘s Josh Homme unveiled themselves as a collective earlier this year at a post-Lollapalooza show and made a huge splash with their first live performance.

Their self-titled debut album was a big hit with new fans as well, but here’s something to wrap your brain around. What if a former member of the Beatles were part of this super group right now? Now, that would be a super group!
