How can attending a Paul Simon show in an intimate setting not be awesome? Well, Paul Simon in just about any venue can be deemed ‘awesome’, but Consequence of Sound points out that Simon has tacked on seven extra club shows to his upcoming spring tour, swinging by cozy venues in Seattle, LA, Oakland, Toronto, Chicago, D.C., and Boston. The new shows will take place right before or after the already scheduled tour dates in those cities.

I can only imagine what it was like to discover Bob Dylan for the first time in the 1960’s, but I think I had a similar experience at Jack Savoretti’s gig at the Hotel Café last week. I was completely lost in the 23-year-old singer-songwriter’s lyrics of evocative travels and lovers lost. His voice is a mixture of joy one moment and then agonizing pain the next. Jack Savoretti’s music takes you on a journey across the world through his eyes. He is like a novel that must be read. It is no exaggeration or misappropriation to say that he is undoubtedly the Bob Dylan of the 21st Century.

Stephen Colbert just keeps rolling out musical heavyweights on “The Colbert Report.” Last night, Paul Simon stopped by to chat about his new book Lyrics 1964-2008.
Colbert being his usual self, put Simon through the ringer during the interview. He tested Simon’s rhyming skills, questioned the kinky lyrics of “Cecelia” and asked what Julio was really up to in “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.”
Paul Simon also performed the classic song “American Tune” from his 1973 album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon. Watch the interview and performance after the break thanks to the good folks at Colbert Nation.
