After last year’s legal battle with EMI over the label’s right to sell individual tracks from ther albums online, Pink Floyd has re-signed a five year contract with the label and appears to have settled all legal disputes, Yahoo! (via Reuters) reports. This disagreement had been especially troubling to a band like Pink Floyd, whose classic albums–Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall–were intended to be appreciated as full listening experiences. EMI must have also been concerned, as they recently lost several high profile groups–The Rolling Stones and Radiohead among them–when they were taken over by the Terra Firma private equity firm back in 2007.

Whatever you think about Pink Floyd, you’ve got to give the classic prog-rock explorers credit for sticking to their guns, as far as artistic integrity goes—the surviving members of the band have emerged victorious in a High Court appeal case from EMI, in which the label wanted to be able to distribute the band’s songs on an individual basis, rather than the album-only basis that Floyd insists upon.

Well, Angelinos/ Elliott Smith fans have cause to miss ex-Pink Floyd member Roger Waters’ upcoming The Wall tour, as Pitchfork reports that the man’s marketing team—who have been slathering various walls in New York and Los Angeles with “projections, wheat pastings, and chalk drawings” of Eisenhower-era anti-war quotations—recently slapped a few over the famous Figure 8 Elliott Smith memorial wall on Sunset Boulevard. The wall isn’t exactly pristine sure, covered as it is with graffiti, but it still smacks of tacky disrespect on the part of Waters’ ad wizards.
Waters himself spoke of the mess with the Los Angeles Times:

Ask any one who knows their psychedelic rock or any kid in college who is just discovering out of body experiences through music and drugs, and they’ll most likely go back to the story of when they first listened to and watched The Wall from Pink Floyd. To this day, the album and its mind-numbing film that accompanied it, is still legendary.
If you’re one of those people who wish time travel had already been invented just so you could have experienced The Wall – Live In Berlin, you now have another option. Co-creator and Pink Floyd band member, Roger Waters, is about to take it to a whole new level when he brings The Wall to life once again – and on tour.

Bonnaroo 2010 will be revealing itself to the nation (or world if you’re a international traveler and music fanatic) slowly but sure on February 9. In fact, it’s going to be dragged out so much that Bonnaroo has called the line up unveiling an event – a “virtual event for Bonnaroo fans” are their exact words. If you’d like to discuss the line up as it is announced chunk by chunk in a community other than Twitter, Bonnaroo.com will have a place for you to do so.
However, we already know one of the big acts for Bonnaroo this year. The Flaming Lips had a chat with our friends Spinner and said they will not only will they be playing the Tennessee festival Friday night but they will also be performing their cover album of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. New Year’s Eve was not the last time for that, after all.

We told you it was happening. Just a day after their not-so-secret show in LA, those who were not lucky enough to attend the show also got word that The Flaming Lips would be covering Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety.
LA may get a few a things behind New York, but sometimes the city of angels does have a chance to grab things first. For instance, Wayne and the guys stopped by KCRW for a session and interview during Morning Becomes Eclectic on Friday, and it’s all been taped for the fans! The session includes their cover of “Eclipse” – which is off of Dark Side of the Moon! Get your first taste of the album.
Listen to it here, or watch the whole thing below after the jump!

Jazz power-trio The Bad Plus has released their newest album For All I Care. Covering bands like Nirvana (hence the name of the album), Pink Floyd, Yes and Russian composer Stravinsky, the band adds singer Wendy Lewis to add her alt-rock voice to the rock n’ roll, jazz and classical fusion.
Bassist Reid Anderson says:
“Classical music doesn’t have to be approached from the vantage point of how sophisticated it is. Jazz doesn’t have to be seen as so complicated, and even the simplest pop or rock tune doesn’t have to be looked down on. It’s a big, wide world out there and it’s nice to explore all the nooks and crannies.”
