Giant balloons, confetti, dancing frogs and kitties, and a gorilla with a person inside — all part of a normal day for one of the best bands ever to see perform live, The Flaming Lips.

Check out some of the photos from the first song at Pitchfork Music Festival below (and yes all of this occurred during only one song)….

This four piece art rock band from Baltimore, Maryland blew me away with their stage presence along with their experimental guitars/ vocals as the final act at Pitchfork.

Fucked Up Header Fucked Up: Pitchfork Music Festival Photos

Most music festivals around the country come with a list of “do’s and don’ts” for ones performance. Well, here at Pitchfork Music Festival, there where no rules. From the very beginning of Fucked Up’s set the lead singer Damian Abraham smashed a full beer on his head, ripped apart a few flying beach balls. Later he joined the sea of people in front of him to finish off this extremely entertaining performance in the early afternoon.

The Jesus Lizard played their first show after 10 long years at Pitchfork Music Fesitval and they haven’t lost one little shred of energy. As soon as the first song started the lead singer David Yow dived over the press pit and strait into the crowd, as the fans all held him up in his glory.

Next up at Pitchfork was one of my personal favorites Yo La Tengo, who opened up their set with a new song called “Here to Fall,” which was absolutely enjoyable. As we listened to the delicious mellow tones of Ira Kaplan, others danced and sang. Even as they grow older Yo La Tengo with 15 albums under their belt still can put on an amazing show.

On a rather chilly day for July thousands of people gather from all over the states to see some of the most influential musicians today, right here in Chicago, IL. Opening up Pitchfork on Friday was Chicago’s own Tortoise, which thoroughly set the day off right with a set list made up entirely by the attendees who voted beforehand on Pitfchfork’s website.

Poll: Whats Your Favorite Music Festival?

Coachella is coming up in a few days! Are you going? Are music festivals what you live for? Generally, music festivals are great because you pay one flat price to see a large amount of some really great bands, and with the summer coming up – it’s the perfect kind of relaxation for those sunny days or cool nights. SXSW just happened, and Coachella is next but there are still big ones such as Pitchfork and Bonnaroo coming up. Which festival do you prefer?

SXSW – the festival that is spread throughout the city of Austin? Coachella – the festival that brings you out into the California desert to let loose? Pitchfork – the Chicago festival that is a little more low key and smaller in size? Or Bonnaroo – the ultimate hippie fest down in Tennessee? Vote below to tell us what you think!

Poll: Old People Review Today’s Music – Awesome or Crazy?

Wednesday, March 11, 2009 12:00PM - By

Remember when you were a teenager and you wanted to listen to music you liked in the car, but your parents absolutely vetoed that option? Parents are so uncool. Well, get a load of this! Three elderly residents of Fishtown, Philadelphia have created a show where they review music of today’s generation (The Thermals, Joanna Newsom, The Decemberists, Clipse, and more) at a diner called Sulimay’s, thus giving their series the title “Breakfast at Sulimay’s.” In this clip, they review Young Jeezy and Animal Collective and I can’t decide if it’s hilarious or completely insane. You may be surprised at Ann approving the rapper, as she points out the “intro” and “assassination” components, yet displaying her distaste for repetitious electronic riffs. Highlights are Joe’s implication of Young Jeezy’s “Black Dreams” putting shame to the African American race and his blatant plug for Girl Scout Cookies as they introduce Animal Collective’s “My Girls.” Watch the clip for yourself, and tell us what you think!
