Today, in holy mother of God this cannot really have happened news, Spinner reported an interesting little tidbit about Queens of the Stone Age. And by interesting little tidbit, I mean of the bandmembers-performing-surgery-on-backstage-fans-variety.
After the hit single “No One Knows” introduced Queens of the Stone Age–and, along with them, so-called “stoner rock”–to a wider audience, band leader Josh Homme has taken the opportunity this success has given him to explore several outlets for his musical expression, continuing to play in the band while also working on such side projects as Eagles of Death Metal and the dream-come-true supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.
Fortunately, he hasn’t left his most succesful band behind, and according to Spinner, we can expect a new Queens of the Stone Age album featuring a distinct blues influence sometime in the future.
Jack White has recently directed the latest music video for The Dead Weather’s new single “I Cut Like a Buffalo.” The video mixes vivid colors and black and white footage throughout the piece and was shot in Nashville at the headquarters of The White Stripes frontman’s label, Third Man.
After a hot and sticky then wet and rainy three-day festival, everyone was psyched to catch the first Them Crooked Vultures show in history. Rumors were flying around and tickets were bought (no scalper would accept less than $2,000 according to Stereogum) and the anticipation for speculation to become reality seemed to give everyone in attendance an extreme high that night.
If you’re happy with that mere tidbit, then you’ll be stoked to hear that Them Crooked Vultures have potentially been booked to play Lollapalooza‘s aftershow! Perhaps this also will soothe fans of the Beastie Boys and those not-much-fans of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The band name wasn’t officially announced but the sign above with the three symbols each representing 1/3 of the supergroup was posted.
White keeps a tremendous pace as he maintains his three bands simultaneously. And although fans might clamor for a new White Stripes album, the new project produced by White results in a superb collaboration between the various members of the band.
