  • And You Will Know Us By the Trail of the Dead | Friday, February 27 | 8:00 pm | $15 | 18+ | The Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY – Map | The elaborately experimental rock band – more than likely featuring tracks from their new album, “The Century of Self” – will be playing with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Midnight Masses. Click here for tickets. (Just miss them? The band will also be playing the Bowery Ballroom (map) on Saturday, February 28 with Midnight Masses and So So Glo’s – click here for tickets.)
  • Dead Prez | Friday, February 27 | 8:30 pm | $25 | Key Club, West Hollywood, CA – Map | Every artist’s lyrics to some extent are comprised of a deeper message, but stic.man and M-1 – who make up the political rap duo – aren’t afraid to directly say what many might feel but aren’t too prone to speak about – concerning media, government, religion, and various other subjects not considered to be “polite conversation”. Someone’s gotta do the talking; long live free expression.  Click here for tickets.

If you haven’t snagged your ticket for San Francisco’s 17th Annual Noise Pop Festival Feb. 24 – March 1, do so before January 12th, or you are going to regret it. If you wait too much longer, you’ll miss the early bird price of $150 which is a fantastic deal. You know that you’ll end up going, your inevitable growing desire to attend possibly one of the greatest (legal) music and arts festivals of recent times will win over. So get a good deal while you still can!

Long story short: This kind of festival separates the true music fans from the apathetic posers. If you really love music, find a way, any way (within modest boundaries) to get there. It’s gonna be awesome. Although the full line up has not been announced, here are my top five picks to look out for: Continue Reading

Walter Meego at The Echo

wmgliu13 Walter Meego at The EchoJoining Ra Ra Riot, Tussle, and Lemonade September 25th, at The Echo was Walter Meego, the electronic duo from Chicago, whose electronic pop sound has been likened to Air and Daftpunk. Justin Sconza and Colin Yarck draw eclectic inspiration from the sounds of Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles to Prince and Madonna. Since relocating to Los Angeles earlier this year, life has been hectic with pool parties and touring. Throughout September and October there’s a non-stop tour of the US and Canada before headlining a citywide tour of Australia. There’s also the anticipated release of their full length album, “Voyager,” after much exposure of their music on “Ugly Betty” and “The Middleman.” Singles like “Forever” and “Girls” ooze down-right dirty addictive lyrics and synthy bubble gum pop that could force a suicide to skip and sing.
