Randy Newman won his second Academy Award Sunday evening for the song “We Belong Together” from the animated film Toy Story 3.

Newman has been nominated 20 times for the Oscar, having won the statue previously for Best Song in 2001 with “If I Didn’t Have You” for the animated film Monsters, Inc.

Now that the nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards are out and ready for heated discourse, let’s acknowledge the Best Original Score category, which features Trent Reznor and Johnny Marr.

Reznor and Atticus Ross are nominate for their work on The Social Network, while Hans Zimmer and collaborator Johnny Marr’s  Inception soundtrack also received a well-deserved nod.

Reznor already won a Golden Globe and now will battle John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon), Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech), A.R. Rahman (127 Hours) and Zimmer/Marr for the Oscar statue.

There was a Disney animated film released this year, The Princess and the Frog, so that means there’s a Randy Newman song, or two, to go with it. Both “Almost There” and “Down in New Orleans” from The Princess and the Frog are nominated for the Best Song Oscar announced this morning in Los Angeles.

Newman has been nominated 17 times for the Oscar, having won once for Best Song in 2001 with “If I Didn’t Have You” for the animated film Monsters, Inc.
