Rock Band Network is going strong — the system, which started beta testing last September, was designed by Harmonix (with the help of Microsoft) to help artists submit their music as downloadable content, without having to deal with licensing. According to Billboard, the Rock Band Network Music Store is now open for business.

This enables Rock Band owners to buy and download songs from artists such as The Shins, the Hold Steady, Band Camaro, Of Montreal, Steve Vai (artists are current participants). There’s also material from Flight of the Concords, Smashing Pumpkins, and Prong. Artists, like said bands, are able to control their master recordings and sell their music through the game, with a 70% cut going to MTV. The sale’s cut may sound heavy, but MTV has another way to reward the artists that use them to sell their music.

Rock Band 3 To Teach You Real Music Rock Band 3 To Teach You Real Music?

Harmonix has got some tricks up their sleeves and it’s got to be really good if they’re going to top The Beatles: Rock Band. In the midst of Guitar Hero, Band Hero, DJ Hero, and more, Rock Band 3 has really got to be spectacular if they don’t want users to get bored.

Well, we might just get that. The only thing is we might not get it as soon as we want. Dhani Harrison, son of Beatles‘ George Harrison, has let a little secret slip out as most musicians do during interviews, whether it’s on purpose or not.

A Flight Of The Conchords Movie Flight of the Conchords Headed To Rock Band

Attention all those who don’t give a damn about Rock Band. It might be time to reconsider. Especially now that the (awesome) comedy folk duo Flight of the Conchords are coming to Rock Band.

Sure, The Beatles: Rock Band was pretty stellar, but this…this is why music + video gaming demands our attention!

Bret McKenzie, one half of the New Zealand duo with Jemaine Clement, told TV Guide in a video interview at the Emmy Awards that three of their songs would appear in the game.

MTV is doing a big solid for independent musicians looking to get their music available on the Rock Band videogame. Later this year MTV will debut Rock Band Network, which will make possible for any artist to submit songs for potential addition to the game.

The Rock Band Network recently started a closed beta trial, which Harmonix and MTV Games expects to increase to a public beta test in August; they hope to open the Network store before 2010.

Authors will be able to submit tracks for play-testing and peer review via a specialized Web site, Creators.RockBand.com.

Beatles: Rock Band Music Video, Brutal Legend Rock Gods Revealed

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 12:30PM - By

That’s the intro for the upcoming Beatles: Rock Band game, by Passion Pictures revealed at the E3 Microsoft press conference. The animated music video looks like it has drawn influence from several different styles. I see some of Terry Gilliam’s Monty Python referenced, and Passion Pictures has been responsible for much of the visuals of the animated rock band Gorillaz.

Another trailer, for the Brutal Legend game featuring Jack Black, was released at E3, and it showed the four rock gods that will appear throughout the game. Guess who they are:

rbunplugged logo Rock Band Unplugged Track List Announced

Electronic Arts, Harmonix and MTV have revealed the full track list for Rock Band Unplugged, coming to the PSP in North America and Europe on June 9. That’s welcome news if you’ve been spending too much time wondering if Rush’s “The Trees” would make the cut. It did.

The setlist, 41 tracks in all, are tunes that have previously appeared in the Rock Band music library. Nine tracks, including The Jackson 5’s “ABC,” are exclusive to the PSP for a limited time before becoming available as downloadable content on other console versions.

We’ve listed all the songs below and must say it’s not a bad line-up; can’t complain with Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” and The Police’s “Message in a Bottle” sharing musical space with Siouxsie & the Banshees’ “The Killing Jar” and Jethro Tull’s “Aqualung.”

From the creators of the Painstation comes the newest addition to the upcoming surge of Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles, MoshPit: Metal Head Orgasmatron. The Moshpit amp detects your headbanging movements and converts them into guitars, bass, drums and vocals. The //////////fur//// website explains:

“As you mosh on, you can change the individual volume levels of the four instruments through your headbanging style and intensity. You can see how far you have pushed the level of each instrument on the four MoshMeters.”

And those MoshMeters go up to eleven.
