This week President Obama was asked a very important question, “Kanye or Jay-Z?” We’ve got the answer to that question below. Also, Frances Bean Cobain reacted to her mother’s (Courtney Love) ranting tweets about her and Dave Grohl canoodling in the back of car. All that and more, below.

All it takes is one listen to the Jeff Beck Group’s Truth album from 1968 to realize it’s always a good thing when guitar legend Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart get together.
RollingStone.com reports that the duo have been discussing recording a new album together, which would be their first since Truth and its 1969 follow-up Beck-Ola; both albums also featured Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood.

While pop fans of today need to deal with Justin Bieber, it’s nice to know that there was a time when singers were a little more classy and had actually gone through puberty before starting their careers. Rod Stewart may not dominate the iPod playlists of today’s pop fans, but his appearances on shows like “American Idol” prove that he’s at least secured a role as an authority on vocal talent.
If you need a reminder of his skills, pick up his new compilation album, The Best of…The Great American Songbook, which hits shelves on Tuesday, February 1.

It’s a surprising double-bill, but no less intriguing now that Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks have announced that they have teamed up for what’s being called the Heart & Soul Tour.
The tour begins March 20 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, followed by another 12 shows across North America. Fans of old school Rod Stewart should be happy to know that he and Nicks will be performing ‘rock & roll sets’ from their catalogs of hits. So no tuxedos and Songbook stuff this time around.

There was a point in time when Rod Stewart was cool. Sure, the ability to competently use the internet pretty much guarantees that you were not alive during this alleged time period, but trust me, it happened. Rod Stewart actually created relevant music and used his feathered hair and permanent tan to nab supermodel Rachel Hunter. You know it was a long time ago if there were still “supermodels”. So though you may not be shocked to hear that Rod Stewart is performing on the Home Shopping Network in support of his fifth(!) compilation of covers and standards in his The Great American Songbook series, believe that this is a betrayal of rock and roll roots that have long been displaced.

If you’re a frequent internet music news surfer, you probably run into a lot of rumors, most of them based on one person’s hopefulness or assumptions. And you know what they say about assumptions…
Now you don’t want to to be an ass, and neither do we, so several times a week, Beatcrave will give you a quick list of recent rumors that have been denied or confirmed. Here’s the latest gab going around:
- A British journal claimed today that David Bowie was in talks with organizers for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival with regards to revival show of the rock legend’s Ziggy Stardust persona. However, NME contacted a Bowie spokesperson this morning and was told that the singer has no plans to play the festival this year. Too bad, but it has been confirmed that Coachella did bid for Bowie last year, so a non-Ziggy-Stardust performance might still be possible.
- In other Coachella news, Faith No More frontman Mike Patton shot down rumors today that the band will reform for this year’s desert bash in April. However, Patton did reveal that he would perform at the festival alongside beatboxer/rapperĀ Rahzel in support of an upcoming collaboration album between the two artists. The album’s release date has yet to be confirmed, but we’re likely to get lengthy preview at Coachella this year. Heck, maybe they’ll even surprise us with some Faith No More remix cuts.
