Russell Brand has been saying some naughty words again. You know who he is. He’s the English comedian, radio personality, and actor who came from the UK to invade our Jason Segel movies (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and our MTV Music Video awards (twice.) He’s got a knack for pushing people’s buttons to grab some hilarity and run with it into the spotlight. Now, he’s saying heroin – yes, the drug – could solve all our problems in the music industry. I haven’t seriously watched the MTV Video Music Awards since high school, so I’m surprised that their latest performance announcement interests me. According to NME, punk rockers Green Day will hit the stage at the 2009 VMA’s on September 13. They’ll be joining other performers who include Pink, Taylor Swift, and Muse. The show will once again be hosted by British comedian Russell Brand, even though I heard he sucked last year.

Russell Brand has the honor of hosting the MTV Video Music Awards for the second year in a row. The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star hosted the show last year to so-so reviews.
Although, Russell Brand was very funny in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and happens to be pretty darn attractive, he may not be the best choice for hosting the show. Many award ceremonies have a tendency to feel forced and contrived and his humor doesn’t really translate to a broad US audience; his sort of deadpan humorcan get lost.
