If there’s anything the flailing music industry needs right now, it’s a smug/ entitled talking head obsessed with glitz and celebrity—which is why gossip blogger Perez Hilton took time out from his SXSW “One Night in Austin” party to announce to Billboard that he’ll be hosting his own music countdown show in the near future, one that will act as “a cooler alternative” to ‘On-Air With Ryan Seacrest.  Because that would be tough to do.

It seems that media personality Ryan Seacrest may be developing what I like to call “Kanye-complex” or “Joaquin-itis.” In an apparent attempt to get some attention for being the first on the ball, Seacrest got blog-happy and posted an alleged official Coachella lineup yesterday on his website. Here’s what it broke down to:

Friday: Nine Inch Nails, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Katy Perry (really…?)

Saturday: Neil Young, the Killers, Primus, TV on the Radio

Sunday: Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Chemical Brothers

Goldenvoice has since denied all of Seacrest’s predictions (and he subsequently removed the post from his blog), but online music zine Defamer has released a series of updates that restates a few (but not all) of Kanye’s… ahem… I mean, Seacrest’s claims. Defamer didn’t name an official source for it, but their completed lineup looks like this:

For a show that started as a rival to the traditional New Year’s fare, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve has sure changed.  The show originally had artists that challenged the establishment – one of the first shows was hosted by George Carlin – but now none of that remains, as can be seen in the choice of co-host Ryan Seacrest and the artists who will perform this year, including Jesse McCartney, Fall Out Boy, and the newest additions, Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers.
