In a surprise move, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is set to host and act as the musical guest on the May 19th season finale of Saturday Night Live. Why shocking? Well, he’s got nothing to shill—his SuperHeavy bandmates are not billed with him, so that’s out; most of the Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary celebrations are being pushed back to next year due to Keith Richards’ health; and Jagger hasn’t released a solo disc in years. Is this the first salvo of unannounced Stones promo performances?

Those of you who happen to be internet-savvy music obsessive already know who Lana Del Rey is—the smoky-voiced hipster chanteuse who has yet to actually release an album but has became both and internet sensation as well as the subject of an intense internet backlash due to her music videos for songs like “Video Games” and “Born to Die,” which many see as crass, studio-crafted and designed-by-committee attempts to generate an inauthentic, American Apparel version of hipster pop to shove down America’s throat.
And, for those of you who didn’t know that, perhaps it helps explain who that strangely robotic female singer was on Saturday Night Live this weekend, the one who could barely sing her way out of a wet paper bag live.

Lana Del Rey, the inexplicably mega-hyped retro-soul/pop singer who has yet to actually release an actual album (there’s one coming in 2012) and has risen to seemingly instant internet popularity due to videos for three songs, will be bringing herself to the masses next January, when she will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.

With the apparently family-destroying days of “Hanna Montana” behind her, pop star Miley Cyrus isn’t ready to leave the limelight just yet. Yahoo! reports that she’ll be hosting “Saturday Night Live” this Saturday, March 5; clearly she’s trying to branch out, since the show airs at 11:30 ET, which is long past the bedtime of her former target audience.

After shedding her “Hannah Montana” persona and thereby asserting her status as someone who needs to be taken seriously, y’all, it is clear that Miley Cyrus wants to build her career and explore demographics other than the “middle-school student” bracket that she’s generally been targetting.
While most of us thought that meant she would focus on her music, maybe she’s also looking to develop a stronger acting career. ABC reports that she will be the guest host on “Saturday Night Live” on March 5, although we have to wonder if that’s a show her fan base will be watching.

Katy Perry’s breasts had the last laugh – assuming they found it funny, because it was kind of a snooze – this weekend on a Saturday Night Live, in which she joined in on a sketch which lampooned her ousting from Sesame Street for (gasp!) having cleavage.

According to Billboard, the Kanye West I-Wish-To-Blantantly-Use-Hype-Ego-And-Shameless-Self-Promotion-To-Apologize-For-My-Constant-Hype-Ego-And-Shameless-Self-Promotion Tour is now in full swing, with the outspoken artist now moving on from making repeated amends with Taylor Swift in seemingly every single interview he does to now burying the hatchet with Saturday Night Live:

After the Facebook campaign to get Betty White on Saturday Night Live was successfully accomplished, fans rejoiced in anticipation especially when we all realized that Jay-Z would be the musical guest. Betty White is a novelty in the entertainment industry – TV, film and radio wise – but we also know we don’t Jay-Z HOVA without reasons.
There was quite a buzz going around about the unlikely couple doing a few skits together. (To be frank, if Tina Fey and Justin Bieber can team up, so could these two!) However, according to Dime Wars and everyone who caught the show late Saturday night, there were no scenes with the rapper and actress side by side.

Let’s face it. Jon Hamm is one of the most dashing men to appear on our TV screens today and we bet if our DVRs and Tivos had feelings, they’d agree that they’re more than happy to record some of his handsome features for us. Hamm is mostly known for his character, Don Draper, on Mad Men. However, some 3o Rock fans may also know him as one of Liz Lemon’s crushes, Dr. Drew Baird. With a connection to NBC, it was only a matter of time before Hamm got to host Saturday Night Live. This weekend’s show was Hamm’s second time hosting.
