Manifest Equality was upon us last week as we all celebrated what it should be like to have equal rights. BeatCrave was lucky enough to attend one of the event’s shows on Saturday night where bands such as Sea Wolf and Issac Brock of Modest Mouse rocked the house. Although the “house” was literally an old space of Big Lots, Manifest Equality did a wonderful job of turning the old bargain shopping store into an art gallery where pieces of art made powerful statements about gay marriage and civil rights. We didn’t actually get a performance from Sam Sparro, but DJ Daisy O’Dell was spinning some great tunes for a great cause.

The Album Leaf CP 2 13 2010f The Album Leaf, Sea Wolf: Concert Review and Photos

Pearl Harbor may have kicked off Valentine’s Day weekend with their show at Space 15 Twenty, but couples around Los Angeles seemed to attend the The Album Leaf and Sea Wolf show at the El Rey Theatre to continue the relaxing Hallmark holiday. With one of Dangerbird Records’ most charming folf rock artists and one of Sub Pop’s most ethereal one man act expanded into 11 members on stage that night, concert goers got much more bang for their buck.

Sea Wolf Music Video Wicked Blood Sea Wolf Music Video: Wicked Blood

Los Angeles-based indie rock band, Sea Wolf, have recently released a music video for “Wicked Blood,” and it’s just in time for Halloween!

Alex Brown Church and band members provide a black and white homage to the silliness of horror films as it stars none other than Shannyn Sossamon as the frightened girl. She gets chased by the typical scary characters such as ghouls and mummies but later finds herself falling in love something that looks like a furry spaceman. Sea Wolf members (with the exception of Church) also do it up skeleton style in a very reminiscent visual of Laura Marling‘s video for “Ghosts.”

Check it out below before you go out to all your Halloween parties and get Hallowasted!

Death Cab For Cutie Does First Single For New Moon Soundtrack New Moon Soundtracks Complete Track Listing Announced!

The New Moon soundtrack has been announced, and it couldn’t be any more different from the first one! We knew it was going to have an indie sound, but this is just ridiculous! Ridiculous in a good way, anyway.

We had known about Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Band of Skulls, and Death Cab For Cutie but who knew the Bon Iver track was going to be a duet with St. Vincent! Others that were recently suspected and now confirmed are The Killers, Grizzly Bear, and Stephanie Meyer’s muse, Muse.

Although one part of us is surprised that indie darlings, Anya Marina and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, are also in the mix, another part says this makes sense. A few of these artists are somehow associated with Alexandra Patsavas’ label, Chop Shop, or her close friends, Nettwerk Music Group. Check out the full track list below and tell us what you think!

The second album from Alex Brown Church’s Sea Wolf project, White Water, White Bloom, is set for release on Sept. 22 via Dangerbird Records, but in the meantime the band has been so kind as to release a free download online.

Sea Wolf fans, or just fans of good, old free music, can download the song, “Stanislau,” right here. White Water, White Bloom is the follow-up to Leaves In The River, and this around Church decided to feature an entire band for the new record to create a fuller, more dynamic sound.

Sea Wolf hits the road for a North American tour on September 14. Check below for tour dates and track-list for the new album.

newalbum New Music: Sea Wolf, Sigur Rós, The Streets

With a nod to the S’s this week, BeatCrave is pleased to spotlight Sea Wolf, Sigur Rós and The Streets, a trio of excellent musical artists who are preparing new albums for our listening pleasure.

We begin with the indie/alternative pop goodness of Sea Wolf, where it’s been announced that Alex Brown Church’s as-yet-untitled sophomore album will be released in September on Dangerbird Records. While his well-received debut record, Leaves in the River, was a mostly solo affair, Church is looking to incorporate a full band style into the recording process. Church is presently in Omaha, NE working on the album with producer, and Bright Eyes member, Mike Mogis. “You’re A Wolf” was the breakout hit from the 2007 debut album.

Indie Rock’s 5 Most Overused Animal Names

fiveanimals09 2 05 Indie Rocks 5 Most Overused Animal Names

Bands named after animals are nothing new.  Some of the greatest bands of all time took their name from the animal kingdom.  And The Eagles did too!  But in recent years, indie bands in particular have shown a special sort of fascination with beastly band names.  And when it comes time to pick those names, they turn to these five animals more than any others…
