Friday, February 5, 2010 11:51AM - By Lindsey Darden

Those Darlins 1 LA 112309 Concert Picks: Those Darlins, AA Bondy, Vivian Girls...

We have five reasons for you to get out off the couch this weekend for reasons other than spontaneously yelling “TOUCHDOWN!” or running to the kitchen for chips and beer. Check out our concert picks below:

  • Those Darlins | Friday, February 5 | 8:00 pm | 18+ | $13 | Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY – Map | Country rock never sounded so edgy, so sixties, so fresh. No doubt about it, our recent BeatCrave Fav was chosen for a reason. These girls are seriously fabulous.  Biased? Never! With The So So Glos and Pine Hill Haints - Buy Tickets
  • Helen Stellar | Friday, February 5 | 8:30 pm | 21+ | $5 | Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA – Map | Rock isn’t dead, neither is band ideology. Hidden, yes, albeit slightly by the influx of robot-like stylings and everyone else who “wants to be a star”. Helen Stellar has been around for a while, so its members know what we’re referring to. It’s refreshing to hear that they’ve kept their heads about them, for the benefit of our ears and minds. With Shiloe, Wet & Reckless and Dirt Bird – Buy Tickets

Download: Shiloe’s By The Daggers In Your Eyes

Download Shiloe's By The Daggers In Your Eyes

It’s almost here! After three teaser EPs, Shiloe will finally be releasing their first full-length album sometime in the beginning of 2010 and we’ve got a sneak preview for you.

Their debut single, “By The Daggers in Your Eyes,” is evidence that Shiloe still knows how to write music for people who like it darker, more intellectually stimulating, and most of all more intriguing when it comes to deliciously devious shoegaze. The three piece band have always been linked to sophisticated gothic tones and rough textures of loud punk volumes, yet they seem to take it up a notch in the single as the melodies have expanded into pop-gaze and the dual drumming takes on even more complicated yet incredibly tight rhythms.

Download the song after the jump along with “The Death of Madame Mustache” which is from their latest EP, …And Now The Screaming Starts.

Interview: Know Your LA Bands with Shiloe

Interview: Know Your LA Bands with Shiloe

BeatCrave brings you band, Shiloe, as part of our Know Your LA Bands series. This three-piece band continues to venture off into another world apart from the happy pop rock artists in the biz. There’s nothing wrong with being peppy, but it’s nice to have a band take listeners up to a higher level of intelligence through their cerebral lyrics. Brooding, post-punk, shoe-gaze may all describe Shiloe, but Ken, Melissa, and Dan pull together a dark sound with gritty indie rock tunes that will have you succumb to delightful derangement for a few minutes. Kids, forget the drugs. This band will give you the same thing for free.

Concert Photos: Shiloe at Spaceland

shiloe 1 30 09 631 Concert Photos: Shiloe at Spaceland

As instruments are tweaked and tuned a slow rush of faceless silhouettes edge towards the stage, hungry for audio stimulation. Five minutes crash and the band is ready to unleash. Performing in their home town, at the eminent Spaceland January 30th, Shiloe gave an amazing exhibition of their collection. It is easy to say that this trio is uniquely gifted, but it is their presence on stage that feeds the crowd to set the drinks aside and lose themselves on the dance floor.  Truly a band to keep your ears and eyes open to.

Interview: Know Your LA Bands with The Karabal Nightlife

Interview: Know Your LA Bands with The Karabal Nightlife

BeatCrave brings you band, The Karabal Nightlife, as part of our Know Your LA Band series. The band has a mysterious sound that matches their unusual name, and LA music goers who have been lucky enough to be entranced by the band have nothing but love to give back.

Jesse Davis (vox, guitar, keys), Lindsay Mancha (bass/vox), and Courtney Olsen (drums/percussion) preserve suspense in their music as it ranges from folk to pop to rock with an irresistible groove. However as they continue to be unpredictable in genre classifications, there is also a remarkable precision in their songwriting. Hear it for yourself when they play The Scene on January 25th along with Seasons, Cobra Lilies, and Odd Modern.

They are currently in the studio working on their follow-up album to The Other Shore. Check out our exclusive interview with The Karabal Nightlife’s bassist, Lindsay, below as she talks about the new record, bad movies, and bad dessert.

shiloe08 10 29 Listen and Download: Shiloes Gone

Shiloe has recently been hitting all the airwaves in Los Angeles from Indie to KROQ. DJ Lizz of KBVR has gone so far as to call them, “The best rock band from L.A. since X.”

They’ve got a Sonic Youth/ Smashing Pumpkins type vibe that sounds like it would go perfectly with some of the new vampire movies coming out. They have just released a new EP titled “…And Now the Screaming Starts” on New and Used Records. It’s dark and mysterious sound sucks you in and grabs your attention.

Check out their song “Gone” below:
