We don’t know about you, but we are tickled that Spring appears to have made up its mind about staying or going this week. Flaw-free sunny days; comfortable nights; flowers and birds and SQUIRREL — oh, my? It’d normally go without saying that such an uplift in weather and mood makes us want to share the love with everyone, but like most other sentiments, we’ve gone and said it. And hopefully our following round-up will inspire you to spread the word about a local act that (a) you’re already excited about or (b) wouldn’t have heard about otherwise. The best thing about music is that there are a million and one ways to still work the various genres in an original sense. Alright, everyone, take out your stopwatches. The countdown to the weekend begins as soon as you say “quittin’ time”. Check out our concert picks below:
- The Tossers | Friday, March 12 | 8:00 pm | 21+ | $12-$15| Mercury Lounge, New York, NY – Map | The Chicago-based band’s Celtic folk/punk rock is as stirring as it is fun, and appropriately well-done. Funny, they don’t seem like a bunch of drunks to us – but we’d be glad to knock a few back with them nonetheless. They’ll be taking on The 12th Annual Craic Festival with Demolition, Mighty Stef, and Trevor Murphy – Buy Tickets
- Sleepy Sun | Friday, March 12 | 8:30 pm | 18+ | $15 | The Echo, Los Angeles, CA – Map | Jazz and blues infused experimental rock takes up residence on Sleepy Sun’s debut, entitled Embrace. They must’ve known in advance how gung-ho we are for decisive rhythms, smooth vocals, and wailing guitars. The Bay Area-based sextet has been so kind so as to bestow us with their presence along their multi-city tour, which will go on through the month of April. With Slang Chickens – Buy Tickets
