Striking a potential blow against angry, in between song banter/ bitching, a judge ruled this week that Jerry Goldstein, former manager of Sylvester Stewart (you might know him as Sly Stone of Sly and the Family Stone), could move forward in his countersuit against Sly, according to Inland SoCal. The basis of the countersuit? Sly complained about Goldstein live and onstage during his Coachella performance this year (ironically, one of the few coherent moments of Sly’s performance).

Although the latest news we’ve heard about Sly and the Family Stone is how Sly is suing their former manager for 50 million dollars, we have to remember the good times the pioneers of soul, funk, and psychedelia have brought us before all the drama and the drugs.
Now we can flash back and travel the journey with Sly Stone in an upcoming documentary titled Higher which is assumed to be taken from his band’s hit song, “I Want To Take You Higher.” The film is supposedly slated for release in 2010. Check it out below and let us know what you think!

Sly Stone joins the hundreds of musicians who feel they have been cheated by a business partner. In this case, Stone the lead vocalist of Sly and the Family Stone is suing his former manager, Jerry Goldstein. The musician believes Goldstein has cheated Stone and his fellow musicians $20 – 30 million worth in royalties and used the money to gain an extravagant lifestyle.
According to Reuters, Goldenstein still has yet to make a comment, or rather, chooses not to comment.
