John Legend‘s latest album with the famous hip hop and R&B group, The Roots, was selected as our album of the week. Although people may have their differences when it comes to the musicality on the album, it sounds like their joint tours are going pretty well. Not only has Kanye even attended one of their shows to hop on stage and perform a few new songs, but the team-up has just snagged beloved director, Spike Lee, for their upcoming webcast. Spike Lee’s documentary film version of Stew and Heidi Rodewald’s Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Passing Strange will premiere on Great Performances Wednesday, January 13th at 9:00 pm (EST). The documentary captures the Broadway production in its final two performances at the Belasco Theatre in July 2008.
Passing Strange features a Tony Award-winning book by Stew, lyrics by Stew, and music by Stew and longtime musical partner Rodewald of The Negro Problem. Passing Strange received seven Tony nominations total in 2008, including “Best Musical.”

Just when we think Michael Jackson news has died down, another great tribute to the artist surfaces to make us relive all the great moments with the King of Pop again. Although the film, This Is It, was released months ago, the music video of the same title has been unveiled.
Whether intentionally released or not, the video directed by Spike Lee combines footage of Jackson’s childhood, great shots from his breathtaking performances and, of course, all the fans who are still honoring him.

It’s been seven weeks since the King of Pop, Michael Jackson died in California of to-be-determined causes. On August 29, the singer would be celebrating his 51st birthday and it just so happens to be the day the Jackson family has chosen to bury him, according to a Jackson family spokesman Ken Sunshine. A private ceremony will be held at Forest Lawn-Glendale eight miles North of downtown Los Angeles. According to Sunshine, Jackson will be buried in the cemetery’s Great Mausoleum on the Holy Terrace.

Who says gossip isn’t good? It gives us more to write about! For the benefit of your supreme music knowledge (so you can know more random music factoids than your friends), here are the latest confirmed/denied rumors flying around out there:
First and foremost, let’s get David Bowie out of the way, because he’s been hogging the spotlight for too long already. In answer to the multitude of rumors being exchanged about the music icon, here is the quick-and-easy breakdown:
- Bowie is not playing Coachella or reviving Ziggy Stardust.
- Bowie may or may not be recording new material Berlin (he didn’t confirm or deny this, although the Twitter message was apparently a hoax).
- Bowie does not have a Twitter account, according to his official website, so don’t trust any news reports that pop up from a Twitter impostor (that’s where these rumors were coming from).
