Everyone is aware of Los Angeles’ size as a city. Thus, it should go without saying that there is plenty to do in the City of Angels. We’ve got a wealth of music in the local scene and as you can see, plenty of venues to host the talent of these bands. However, going the extra mile to see a show can be so much more than just worth it–even if it means driving out 40 minutes to Pomona’s Glass House.
Our reasons were legitimate if not exciting already: There was a dream lineup happening with Geographer, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart and last but not least, Stars. The night started early and ended late; just like a perfect show would affect us, we didn’t even notice the time fly by.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but we here at BeatCrave find that it’s never too early to think about what you’re thankful for. Let’s start at the top, shall we? Our ears. Our brains. Our comfortable dancing shoes. Any and all sense of rhythm. And, of course, persistent, well-intentioned music recommendations, especially when it means getting out of the house. Here’s our weekly five, pour vous:

With Broken Social Scene touring non-stop in 2010 and BSS satellite groups Stars and Metric also staying in the public eye, one often wondered what happened to Feist? By far the biggest breakthrough personality to emerge out of the collective, thanks to a catchy song and catchier iPod commercial, Leslie Feist followed chance commercial success all the way to the Grammys. And though we will have to wait a little longer for her follow-up to The Reminder, the singer has announced a limited screening run for a documentary about the making of her 2007 breakthrough, currently penciled in at seven cities over the next month.

Lollapalooza‘s first day may have had Lady Gaga, but day 2 was jam packed with artists whether you were a huge electronica head, an indie rocker or Bayside ska kid. We knew we definitely had our day cut out for us but with Grant Park’s massive size for a festival, we must have walked miles as we rushed to see band after band.
Some big names that got us warmed up for the night’s headliners included Stars, Metric, Grizzly Bear, AFI, Spoon and more. We were able to support our Los Angeles bands such as Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Soft Pack (San Diego’s close enough), Dawes and more as well. However, the night ended with fireworks during Green Day, Phoenix and Empire of the Sun. Take a look at our day in photos below!

Last night was a huge night for both the Montreal-based band, Stars, and for Los Angeles fans who love them. Not only did they just release the latest album, The Five Ghosts, worldwide on Monday via Vagrant but Tuesday night was the first of two highly anticipated sold out shows. There wasn’t room to even breathe but we were well aware of what we were getting ourselves into for the night. When there’s great music to be heard, personal sacrifices are pushed to the back of the mind to make room for sensations of glee and awe.

Canadian band, Stars, graced the stage of The Troubadour last night in Los Angeles and they have another show tonight. However, both shows are sold out. We know one thing though. If you’re free for the night, trying to get into a show like this is well-worth it. Even if there’s a slim chance of getting in tonight, we still say go for it.
Although we didn’t get any footage of Stars vocalist, Torquil Campbell, “performing” under the moniker Dead Child Star, we were able to capture two songs off of their latest album just released yesterday, The Five Ghosts, and three classic Stars songs during their two-part encore.

Break-ups blow. Even if you’ve parted on good terms, they still pretty much suck. All the reminiscing you do… alone. Everything you see is a reminder that screams, “EX!” However, one great thing about break-ups is that they make great content for songwriting. Chances are whatever you’re feeling, someone has already put it down in a song!
Were you angry? (listen | lyrics) Were you justifying your reason? (listen | lyrics) Were you fed up? (listen | lyrics) Were you just trying to survive afterward? (listen | lyrics) Or were you full of regret after it? (listen | lyrics) Vote today and see what others think! (If you’ve haven’t experienced heartbreak yet, choose which song you think would do the best job.)
