Pete Yorn collaborator/Tom Waits interpreter Scarlett Johansson continues her somewhat interesting, yet unnecessary foray into the world of music, this time covering Steel Train’s new single – “Bullet.”
The song is featured on the New Jersey indie band’s latest, self-titled album, as well as Terrible Thrills Vol. 1, the companion album that features each of the self-titled album’s twelve tracks reinterpreted by some of the band’s favorite female artists. Besides Johansson, Tegan and Sara, Amanda Palmer and Nellie Mckay, among others, are featured.

New Jersey’s indie rock band, Steel Train, has been around over a decade now and they’ve still got it even if they’re only releasing their third (self-titled) studio album this year. We were lucky enough to catch a set of theirs a while back and are highly anticipating the arrival of the fresh new album in our hands on June 29.
However, lead singer and songwriter of Steel Train, Jack Antonoff, has shared with us that he had always heard the new album with a female vocalist. Of course, the new album will feature the guys on vocals but they had another trick up their sleeve to make that idea happen. They’ve not only gotten one female singer to cover a track off the new album but they’ve successfully acquired more than ten very well-known ladies to make this become a reality!

It was another night at Bardot for their Lo-Fi series, but of course BeatCrave doesn’t go out to see “just another band.” Following Manifest Equality on Saturday night, we went right over to catch a set by New Jersey’s rock band, Steel Train. As a band who has traveled on the road for most of their existence, Steel Train turned a small show at a small Hollywood club into a night much bigger than expected.
