The National Anthem—sure, it’s a stirring and poetic encapsulation of the best elements of the American spirit, but have you ever tried to sing that thing? It’s not exactly easy. Which is exactly what Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and American Idol found out on Sunday, when he turned in an atonal and frankly embarrassing version at AFC Championship game. Check out the video after the jump.

Look at the face in the picture above, gang—that’s the picture of sobriety, according Steven Tyler, the owner of said bruised and battered mug. The 63 year old American Idol host and Aerosmith frontman apparently took a tumble in the shower in Asuncion, Paraguay on Tuesday—but Tyler swears that it has nothing to do with his long battle with substance abuse, and that he has not fallen off the wagon.

Hot on the heels of the news that Madonna will be releasing a wholly and totally unnecessary album next year, Rolling Stone reported today that Aerosmith, too, are hard at work on a wholly and totally unnecessary album (it will be their fourteenth studio disc). So, once again, Steven Tyler will have an excuse to dress like your wacky grandma from Arizona and do his best Mick Jagger impression on tour.

As part of his recent quest to regain some relevance, Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler will be releasing a memoir this May, according to Show Biz Spy. The book, entitled Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, will likely deal with all the usual trials and tribulations of rock star life–sex, drugs, and reluctantly fading into pop culture obscurity. Tyler said that the process of writing it was “cathartic.”

It’s been a big year for Steven Tyler–maybe even bigger than the year that Armageddon reminded viewers that Aerosmith used to write good ol’fashioned blues rock (just turn the movie off before the end credits and you can forget that the group turned into a boy band for a few years). By taking a gig as a judge on “American Idol,” the rocker renewed interest in his band, resulting in a welcome increase in sales.
Now, Spin tells us they’ll all be heading back to the studio to record a new album. Might those dollar signs have had something to do with this?

As the lead singer for a band like Aersomith, we doubt that Steven Tyler has ever had a lot of difficulty getting female attention through the years. And while he may be officially be an “aging rocker” by this point, if a recent event on “American Idol” is any indication, he’s still got what it takes to charm the ladies.

With Simon Cowell focusing his efforts on his new talent show “X-Factor“, popular music stars Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have had to do their best filling in for him on “American Idol.” Whether or not they are doing a good job at it is up for debate, but Cowell seems to think J-Lo would make a strong judge; he asked her to ditch the “Idol” gig and come join the panel on his show.
Well, according to DimeWars, she turned down the offer, and Simon isn’t too pleased.

See this dude in the photo above? Yeah, that’s Steven Tyler and he used to rock it out with his band Aerosmith but after numerous injuries and creative differences with his band mates, he is now an American Idol judge. Talk about downgrade.
We all heard the rumors of Tyler replacing one of the many judges leaving the hit show but even for someone who isn’t the biggest Aerosmith fan, this is some sad news now that it’s actually official. Jennifer Lopez got dropped by her label and her latest movie, The Backup Plan bombed, so it only made sense that even her diva-like tendencies would be compromised for a certain sum of money. However, will Tyler and Lopez – along with the only original member of the judging panel, Randy Jackson – cut it for audiences?

Well, according to Billboard, it’s finally happened – Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has reportedly inked a deal with Fox to become American Idol’s new host, thus marking largest collision and joining of mediocrity since Ron Silver’s past and future selves merged into one another at the end of 1994′s Timecop (a Jean-Claude Van Damme film reference in my first sentence? Advantage, mine).
