Well, according to Billboard, it’s finally happened – Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has reportedly inked a deal with Fox to become American Idol’s new host, thus marking largest collision and joining of mediocrity since Ron Silver’s past and future selves merged into one another at the end of 1994′s Timecop (a Jean-Claude Van Damme film reference in my first sentence? In the mostly ridiculous, but no less engaging soap opera that is Aersomith these days, a new episode is in the works, which might be titled: ‘Joe Perry Is Really Annoyed That He Was The Last To Know About Steven Tyler Maybe Joining American Idol.

The terrible judge with the impossible to pronounce last name is – maybe – out at American Idol. TMZ reports that Kara DioGuardi might be following Ellen DeGeneres right out the door of American Idol headquarters.
It appears show producers put the kibosh on DioGuardi’s contract renewal; Idol is being tweaked (again) with a return to a three-judge format. Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler is reportedly first on the list to replace DioGuardi. DeGeneres announced her departure from the show on Thursday with Jennifer Lopez reportedly(!) on deck as a replacement.

Last Sunday night’s match-up at Boston’s Fenway Park between hometown heroes the Red Sox and bitter rivals the New York Yankees featured a musical invasion of sorts, with appearances by Dr. Dre, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, and God… er, Neil Diamond (don’t even make a joke—I will gladly knife-fight anyone who makes fun of the Diamond), with both Tyler and Diamond turning in musical performances of, let’s say, ‘varying’ quality.
Live Daily reports that Dr. Dre appeared pre-show to hawk a new set of Red Sox-themed headphones, called “Beats By Dre,” while Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine talked up Dre’s new single with Jay-Z, “Under Pressure.”

The mudslinging continues in the “are-they or aren’t-they Aerosmith” breakup that probably should have occurred fifteen years ago. Amidst rumors of a Billy Idol takeover (setting this story’s relevance back to, say, 1985), and even Paul Rogers of Bad Company (ok, 1975), Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has confirmed to Classic Rock Magazine that his current sparring partner/ supposed former lead singer Steven Tyler did try out for Led Zeppelin after Robert Plant declined to tour in 2008.

The ongoing soap opera between Steven Tyler and Aerosmith is shaping up to be the rock n’ roll story of 2010. We’ve been reporting on the band’s search for a replacement singer while Tyler battles his demons, but now looks like Tyler isn’t too keen on some other singer taking over spot as lead singer of Aerosmith – even if only for a little while.
Billboard reports that Tyler and his team of lawyers are ‘taking steps to reassert his position in the band.’

The Steven Tyler saga about whether or not the legendary vocalist is, or is not leaving the band has reached somewhat of a turning point with the news that Aerosmith are to begin auditioning singers to temporarily replace Tyler, who checked into rehab in late December.

Whichever vocalists are out there practicing their best Steven Tyler impersonation – yeah, go ahead and forget all that. It seems that Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler has decided he still wants to be ‘Aerosmith lead singer.’ Tyler joined Joe Perry on stage at the Fillmore in New York City Tuesday night to quell rumors of his departure from the group.
“New York, I want you to know… I’m not leaving Aerosmith,” Tyler told fans during a concert by the Joe Perry Project, NME.com reported. Tyler and Perry, collaborators for close to 40 years, then ripped into a version of “Walk This Way.”
