Just under a month after a similar disaster in which a Cheap Trick outdoor concert stage collapsed in the middle of the Ottowa Bluesfest in Ontario, Canada, a stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fair on Saturday night during a Sugarland/ Sara Bareilles concert, killing five and injuring dozens more.
VH1′s Divas Salute the Troops was packed with sequins and colorful hair on Sunday night. The event was hosted by comedian Kathy Griffith and featured performances by a variety of divas. Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj covered Cyndi Lauper‘s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Paramore‘s Haley Williams performed to an enthusiastic crowd in Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. And the legendary Aretha Franklin (who is recovering from surgery) received a surprise tribute from Sugarland and rapper MC Lyte.
At first glance, the new album releases this week seemed a bit dreary and dry, but attention to detail is rewarding and some of the most interesting musical discoveries were made while picking out the featured artists for album of the week. It’s no shocker Good Charlotte has landed among the bottom ranking, while R&B princess Ciara reigns this week’s list. The Obamas were among a bevy of A-list performers on Sunday night at the National Building Museum, celebrating the annual Christmas in Washington benefit concert. Among the famous were singers Neil Diamond and Mary J. Blige, the band Sugarland, comedian George Lopez, and teen sensation Justin Bieber.
After being named Humanitarian of 2002 and frequently named as one of the most influential women in the world, Oprah is not known for being stingy. This woman continues to give and give. However, she unfortunately announced The Oprah Show will be coming to an end in 2011.
