We’re sorry we didn’t share this with you sooner because it’s brilliant. We’re talking about the performance by Superchunk that happened on Monday and aired later on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. In support of their latest album, Majesty Shredding, (their first new album in seven years) the DIY band stopped by for their first late night TV performance in 16 years.

As if any of you 90′s music lovers didn’t already know, Superchunk are getting ready to release a brand new album titled Majesty Shredding. The album will be their first full-length in seven years (and a follow-up 2009′s EP “Leaves in the Gutter”) and is slated for release on September 14 via Merge Records.
Not only is Merge Records the very label which Superchunk members, Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan, started way back in the day before they gathered an impressive roster including Arcade Fire, Camera Obscura, The Love Language, The Magnetic Fields and more, but Superchunk was also one of the true DIY artists who took music business into their own hands. To promote the news about the upcoming album release, they’ve teamed up with AV Club for a live performance where they cover The Cure. Watch it below!

Merge Records artists Superchunk, Polvo, the Rosebuds have donated some concert recordings of their songs to help brain cancer.
CyRawls, a fixture on NC music scene (and friend of many of the musicians in these bands) passed away earlier this year from brain cancer. In honor of Cy (and to help people who are also suffering from brain cancer) a new music downloading site appropriately called “CyTunes” is launching today. The site allows users to download exclusive concert recordings from a slew of awesome bands, with all the proceeds from their sales going to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University in Durham, NC.
Check out a list of some of the bands signed on to participate after the break:
