Last Sunday may have been the end to a painfully hot weekend but things were burning up again at 6th Street Warehouse downtown. Not only were local LA band, Superhumanoids, starting the night off right but beloved Long Beach-based band, Crystal Antlers also came out to support NYC-based Cults for their first LA show ever. The place which consisted of a skating ramp serving as a stage was not out of the ordinary for warehouse shows but what we had to endure was the heat. However, it turned to be a great way to wrap our weekend up even if we were all feeling uncomfortably sticky in the end.

Aquarium Drunkard‘s annual WAVED OUT event returned to The Echo and The Echoplex this past weekend and with a killer lineup, BeatCrave made sure to get over there and soak in all the musical talent both stages would be overflowing with. Of course, we weren’t the only ones there; both venues continued to pack in more music fiends like us late into the night. For a measly $12, concert goers were pampered with free ice cream, food trucks, free t-shirts, bingo, and sixteen bands! If you missed out, no worries! We have a re-cap and a TON of photos to share with you after the jump!

The only significance behind the name Superhumanoids that we could think of is that perhaps the Los Angeles-based foursome considers themselves a hybrid of super-special with one-in-the-same human-like qualities. Maybe they picked the name so we’d read far too much into it; either way, it’s a nice touch to a local band that seems very humble when it comes to their musical strengths.
We don’t know what it is exactly that draws us to them – it could be their balanced marriage of electronic and rock & roll (with one never outweighing the other), their propensity go by anything but their last names, or the way they command even intimate live performances. Whatever it is, we like and we want more. If you feel the same way, check out Superhumanoids in our BeatCrave Fav series below – and don’t forget to vote for them in Friday’s BeatCrave Fav of the Week poll!

***Update: Our recent Concert Pick Here We Go Magic will be playing the Bonnaroo 2010: Check out the full Bonnaroo 2010 Lineup Here!!!***
It’s the last weekend of the month! It’s of our personal opinion that being in attendance of any of the following shows will give January the send-off it deserves. Check them out below:
- Here We Go Magic | Friday, January 29 | 8:00 pm | 18+ | $12 in advance; $14 day of show | Music Hall of Williamsburg, New York, NY – Map | The Brooklyn-based electro-folk/indie outfit beckons us to ride the melancholy train with them, what with dual voices, looming harmonies, and strumming (a la Paul Simon and Simon & Garfunkel, perhaps). But it’s never as simple as that, and if you think it is, then you’ll be in for a treat. With Midnight Masses and Glass Ghost – Buy Tickets
