The People’s Choice Awards of 2012 were held last night in Los Angeles, and, in addition to actually handing an award out to Kim Kardashian for “Best Celebrity” (seriously), the awards ceremony further pointed out its obsolescence and pointlessness by doling out best music awards to such illustrious musicians as Maroon 5, Demi Lovato, and, of course, Katy Perry.
The country singer-songwriter Taylor Swift was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year today. At 21 years old, Swift is the youngest artist to receive the honor. That’s right, Taylor, keep bringing the diary entries set to music because “Woman of the Year” and 2 listings in the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records (Fastest Selling Digital Album by a Female Artist and Most Simultaneous U.S. Hot 100 Hits by a Female Artist) proves something must be working.
Look, I know that I say a lot of stuff on here is a preamble to the apocalypse, and I turn out to be wrong each time… but if this isn’t the beginning of the end, I don’t know what is—Taylor Swift sells more concert tickets than a Beatle.
Sometimes, the universe throws something out there that just forces you to believe in a greater good. And by “throws something out there,” I mean dropping a big-ass thunderstorm on top of Central Park last in New York to prevent an outdoor concert featuring Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift may have skyrocketed to stardom, but at least she’s grounded enough to know that she has the people who raised her to thank for the massive success she’s experienced over the last couple of years. According to Yahoo!, the country pop star recently dug into her ever-expanding bank account and bought her parents a house in Nashville for the hefty sum of $1.4 million.

Well, Swift surprised us–don’t worry, she’s not doing a “hey, we’re tottally friends now” collaboration with Kanye–by putting her own personal twist on some Nicki Minaj rhymes during a radio interview.
