Taylor Swift has been working hard for the past couple of years on her third album, and today she will see her hard work pay off. Speak Now dropped today and to officially set it out into the world, Taylor is going to throw a huge show for her biggest fans in New York City.
We get where Taylor Swift is coming from. She’s young, she’s got emotions and the only way to help her heal is by writing songs. That diary of her has been bursting with the angst that simply needs to be expressed in an easy going pop country melody – or two albums worth. Forgive us if we thought the young singer-songwriter lived in a fairytale (it’s only been her motif since she was 16), but apparently she’s not done pointing fingers. All the Taylor/Miley/Selena super-fans (aka all you tweens) better start gossiping because she left Joe Jonas off easy compared to what she’s done to John Mayer on her new album, Speak Now.
After scoring a victory in a legal battle against merchants bootlegging her name and image earlier this week, it appears that Taylor Swift is in the center of yet another legal battle, when everyone knows she should be left alone to write saccharine and horrid forgiveness songs dedicated to Kanye West.
So it looks like I’ve got to pack up my truck from the corner of Hollywood and Highland with all the screen-printed “Biebtastic!” and “Leave it to Bieber!” t-shirts I’ve been hustling for extra scratch this month—AP reports that Taylor Swift has scored a court victory against “individuals she claimed violated trademark by selling counterfeit merchandise bearing her name and picture”:
In between his unintentionally ‘Deep Thoughts’-styled tweets and behaving in such a way that even the President of the United States mutters “jackass” in his direction, Kanye West has taken time out from his busy schedule of endless narcissistic self-promotion to narcissistically self-promote his new film, which is based on his new record, which I’m sure won’t be narcissistic or self-promotional at all.
Taylor Swift is one of the richest 20-year-olds in the world for her ability to lay the words in her diary on top of some nice pop country melodies. She was only 14 when she became a part of the Sony Records family as a songwriter and she really did only write about what she knew. It’s something all writers do whether they’re part of the music industry or not. Her pop career was then boosted when she wrote a song about being dumped by Joe Jonas (“Forever & Always”) and she busted out those chops once again when she hosted SNL.
So when it’s the one year anniversary of her incident with Kanye West, was she going to address her delicate-princess feelings through song? Obviously. However, this time, it’s hard to conclude whether we can all still find it endearing or merely pathetic now.
Another year has gone by and and another batch of unnecessary awards shows have also occurred to capitalize on the teen market who ave no clue the “M” in MTV used to stand for Music Television. Honing in on reality shows such as the filthy Jersey Shore and getting the best B-list celebrity talk show host to talk smack about A-list celebrities (via Chelsea Handler) basically sums up our vapid generation’s interest last night.

Even if you chose not to watch the MTV Video Music Awards last year, the news about West’s impulsive decision to run up on stage and interrupt Swift during her win crept into every nook and cranny of the internet. The now infamous phrase “I’ma let you finish but…” is still a joke a year later. However, Mr. West’s guilt still hasn’t subsided.
Taylor Swift‘s Fearless won big at the MTV VMAs and the Grammys but on June 9th, the 20-year-old singer got no love from her country brethren. Instead, Carrie Underwood was crowned the queen of the night at the CMT Music Awards, while Swift went home empty handed.
