It seems like a lot of bands whose last albums were in 2007 are making 2010 their major comeback this year. Apples In Stereo is now one of these bands in anticipation of their upcoming album, Travellers in Space and Time, which slated for release on April 20. To celebrate the album release and to shout out to the influence of Apples In Stereo, a hand full of indie rock artists have come together on a cover album which is being billed as “Future Vintage: Covers of The Apples In Stereo.” Pressed on 12″ vinyl, it will be available for free with purchase of Travellers at your favorite local indie retailer on national Record Store Day, April 17th. Bands from the indie elite are lining up to pay tribute to 20 years of Merge Records.

Merge Records is offering a series of  14 compilation records in 2009 curated by bands, actors, comics and other celebrities including Peter Buck of R.E.M., The Upright Citizens Brigade, Amy Poehler, David Byrne and Zach Galifianakis. The series is available via subsrciption on Merge Records website and the releases will be mailed throughout 2009.

The subscription will set you back $179 before November 8 and $199 after. The proceeds will benefit charities picked by the curators of the compilation albums.

In addition to the series, a subscription will also include The Merge Covers Album and The Merge Remix Album. The Covers Album will feature artists like Death Cab For Cutie, Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams, The Apples In Stereo and others covering their favorite songs from the Merge catalog. The Remix Album, obviously enough, will feature remixes of Merge favorites by Battles, Caribou and Junior Boys among others.

tedleo Ted Leo Cancels Band Dates, Solo Shows Still On

Ted Leo has canceled his the remaining tour dates with his band The Pharmacists. Leo’s website says the dates are canceled due to a personal emergency.

The first two canceled shows were the last two dates of a month-long co-headline run with Against Me!. Though Leo has canceled the balance of tour dates with his band, his solo dates scheduled for December are still on.

The dates are available after break.
