In sports, a seemingly minor injury can have a lasting impact on the player’s productivity for seasons after it occurs. But in music, there are only a few rare cases where an injury, outside of drugs and death, has caused a band to breakup or a career to end. U2 should be optimistic after Bono‘s back injury forced the Irish legends to cancel their American tour and Glastonbury headlining appearance. In fact, the pop stars have already completed a string of dates in Europe and are planning ahead for 2011.

Julie Taymor, director of the upcoming Spider-man musical with music by U2, Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark (sweet, sweet Jesus), spoke about U2’s music for the show today on Good Morning America (because if there is one thing America is clamoring for, it’s a Broadway musical about a teenage boy bitten by a radioactive spider and who develops the ability to spray webbing all over New York, backed with music by modern day – a.k.a. not good – U2). Speaking about Bono and the Edge’s tunes for the show, Taymor did slip in a bit of good news: it doesn’t sound like U2.

U2’s 360 Degree tour marched on into fall with a historic one of a kind performance at Giant Stadium. Over 82,000 tickets were sold for this special occasion making it the biggest concert in the venue’s history. Keeping in tune with the name of the tour, the stage could be seen from all sides of the stadium which gave the band an upper hand when it came to selling more tickets than other shows.
As usual, the arrival of a new U2 album is being treated as something akin to the return of Jesus, and unfortunately, U2 lovefest 2009 shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. If anything, it is gaining momentum. First there was that over-enthusiastic 5 star Rolling Stone review of their new album, No Line On the Horizon. Shortly thereafter, it was announced that they would be taking over the Late Show With David Letterman stage for a five night residency. And now, out of NYC comes news that mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided to name a street after the band, temporarily, anyway.
Yesterday we reported on ScreenCrave that Lion King musical creator Julie Taymor would be directing Spider-Man the musical.
Broadway announced that the musical, would feature music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge and that Evan Rachel Wood would be appearing as Mary Jane. The show is set to open in February 2010 at the Hilton Theatre.

U2is back with a video for their single, “Get On Your Boots.” We’re pretty sure that the band’s hardcore fans are excited for pretty much everything that has to do with New Line on the Horizon, but what about this video? Not only does it have similar elements to the Killers’ new video, “Spaceman” (the space and the skull theme) but there is a ton going on. Videos may be getting cooler with special effects these days, but they also continue to make less sense.
However, according to Hot Press, here’s what The Edge thought:
It’s based around the idea that men have fucked things up so badly, politically, economically and socially that it’s really time we handed things over to women. We had our doubts when we saw a rough cut – but the finished video is brilliant. He’s really nailed it.
