Not surprisingly, the end of the month has crept upon us yet again. In between the buzz and excitement of the Royal Wedding, the impending weekend, payday (maybe? hopefully?), and warmer weather making more frequent appearances, there’s a lot to be happy about. Amp it up all the more with a spirited show, hand-picked, from us to you, no less.
If you weren’t aware of Passion Pit having their own record label, you know now. Also, when we say Passion Pit, we really mean their synth-sample player, Ayad Al Adhamy. Adhamy runs an imprint that goes by the name of Black Bell Records and with the success of Passion Pit over the last one and half years and indie artists having the freedom to do what they want these days, we’re not actually surprised Adhamy has his own label.
The big part in this piece of news is that Adhamy just signed his first band to the label – and a great one at that. Black Bell Records’ first artist is none other than North Wales-based band, The Joy Formidable.

At last, music that doesn’t emphasize on the pangs of life all the time; The Joy Formidable is a three-way band that truly knows how to transmit the joys of life through their music. Lead by Ritzy Bryan, a lovely blonde, The Joy Formidable crosses happy-shouty lyrics with a heavy bass that equal the perfect dose of happiness that any of us need to live through the day. This band has everything to make you fall in love, – Even a free download of their debut album A Balloon Called Moaning, is a real work of art.
The art making between Bryan, Rhydian Dafydd (vocals, bass), and Matt Thomas (drums) is good enough to keep you listening. Filled with fuzzy guitars and lead by different girlish vocal sound, their first album was huge and we hope to see more great things from this happy band.
