The Kinks get a lot of credit as a band, but is it ever enough? They blended British Invasion pop sensibilities with clever, unique lyrics and an almost punk rock attitude–impressive, given the fact that punk hadn’t officially been invented yet when they hit the scene.

While those types of bands rarely maintain their youthful exuberance into old age, we’d still welcome a reunion from the group, just to see how well they still rock. And according to Spinner, such a reunion may be on its way, depending on how lead singer and songwriter Ray Davies feels.

It seems like biopics focused on musicians are popping up every other day. We’re already awaiting the John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy. We’ve also got the Serge Gainsbourg picture, Vie Heroique coming up. Last but not least, we’re all wondering if that Jeff Buckley feature will ever turn into a reality.

The latest one we’ve come across is one on legendary British band, The Kinks. Director, Julien Temple, is currently working on making this become an actuality for theaters. It sounds like it’s highly possible too, since he’s already done films in the past such as The Great Rock ‘n’ Rock Swindle, The Filth and The Fury, and his latest, Oil City Confidential.

The Kinks Working On New Music

Ray Davies has told the BBC that The Kinks have started writing new songs for a possible reunion. Ray’s brother and Kinks bandmate Dave Davies suffered a stroke in 2004 but is in good health and involved in writing the new music. It’s unclear which if any other former Kinks members are involved.

Ray didn’t guarantee anything though. He said “It depends if there’s good music. We want good new music. I’d like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do.”
