This weekend was packed with tons of great shows to go to. We started out with LA Folk Fest’s Murder Ballad night on Tuesday but the spookiness and craziness continued for us. If you aren’t the raving type or just didn’t manage to get tickets to HARD Haunted Mansion this year, you would have had as much fun if not more at The Henry Clay People‘s annual Rock and Roll Circus on Friday night. Perfect for Halloween weekend, the 14-band mini festival at The Echo and The Echoplex was an intriguing swirl of musicians and fans all dressed up in costumes and appropriately soaking up the booze along with the songs.
Without a minute wasted in silence, there were bands even playing in the Echoplex lounge and out on the patio in between sets. There were was also popcorn and games set up making it a truly bizarre but fun night. We were there to capture as much as we could for you. Check our photo gallery out below!

The Monolators is another band alongside Manhattan Murder Mystery who have been around Los Angeles’s indie rock scene for a long time and we’re glad they’re still going! As previously mentioned in our BeatCrave Fav series, The Monolators write some the most clever pop songs around town. So we’re always stoked to catch a live set from the band which initially started out as just a husband and wife duo with Mary and Eli Chartkoff.

And, of course, an across-the-nation sensibility? Triple-check. We live to keep your bases covered, but as always, feel free to tell us what big act we may be missing out on. The Monolators have become a local favorite out on the west coast and they are certainly not new to BeatCrave. For a band that started out as a husband and wife duo, their sound now is now brimming over the top with three more members who help create an infectious sound of psychedelic indie-rock pop.
This is one band that has been in it for the long haul and it’s definitely paying off. With wife, Mary Chartkoff, pounding those beats on the drums and husband, Eli Chartkoff, throwing mad adrenaline at you through vocals, their live shows are the epitome of DIY dance parties. The Monolators’ sound takes on its own world if you listen to their latest album, Don’t Dance. Despite their song titles, every single one of their tracks is an anthem for your day-to-day happenings. By the time you spin the entire record, you’ll want to buy each band member a beer, because they know what you’re going through – only they express those feelings in a much cooler way than your pen could ever do hitting that paper in your journal.
Check The Monolators out in our BeatCrave Fav series below. I dare you not to dance after this.

BeatCrave brings you band, The Monolators, as part of our Know Your LA Bands series. What started out as a trio, then turned into a duo has now grown into a massive indie pop rock band locals have come to love. Being around for six years equivalates to about forever in band years, and it’s amazing to hear some of the stories bands collect during such a duration. We’re not talking about who drank too much or which band member had an unfortunate crowd surfing experience. Sometimes the stories of longevity and its rewards make the best ones, and The Monolators were kind enough to share some with me.
The Monolators have just released their CD, Don’t Dance, at Spaceland and now they are busy at working hard – but also having fun – at their Pehrspace residency every Monday for November. With pop hooks that are original as their stories are, this band is bound to add on even more years of expertise. They do all of this while having a blast. So if you’re in the area, make sure you see The Monolators live. I promise; you’ll have a good time and definitely want to dance despite their song titles.
