Closing out Lollapalooza’s Playstation stage on Sunday was the indie group of Joy Division worshippers known as The National. A veteran of the festival – and many others the world over – these guys knew exactly how to play to their crowd. Coating their set in a fine lacquer of fan favorites gave the band’s set a beautiful, glossy sheen from start to finish.
Well, at least the bombs he’s supposedly bringing to the world aren’t in the form of rotten albums.
The National’s Matt Beringer, following a “rigorous overseas press schedule” promoting the band’s excellent new album, High Violet, found himself laid over at the Honolulu Airport during a trip from Tokyo to Kauai, where he planned to meet his wife and child for a family vacation. Instead, he told Spinner, while sitting in a massage chair with a muffin and coffee while waiting for his flight, Beringer caused the evacuation of the entire airport under the threat of a bomb detonation.
For those of you who have patiently waited for The National‘s latest album, High Violet – the day is finally here! Officially released today via 4AD, The National’s gorgeous album is available for everyone and what better way to all celebrate it than by watching an official video for their first official single, “Bloodbuzz Ohio?”
Little Scream isn’t the name of an album. It’s actually the moniker which singer, Laurel Sprengelmeyer, performs under and right now she’s a very lucky girl. If you haven’t heard of Sprenglemyer, you might want double check. Those lovely vocals in the background The National‘s “Bloodbuzz Ohio” must have been heard by almost every music fanatic since High Violet is currently streaming courtesy of the NY Times.
