Everyone is aware of Los Angeles’ size as a city. Thus, it should go without saying that there is plenty to do in the City of Angels. We’ve got a wealth of music in the local scene and as you can see, plenty of venues to host the talent of these bands. However, going the extra mile to see a show can be so much more than just worth it–even if it means driving out 40 minutes to Pomona’s Glass House.
Our reasons were legitimate if not exciting already: There was a dream lineup happening with Geographer, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart and last but not least, Stars. The night started early and ended late; just like a perfect show would affect us, we didn’t even notice the time fly by.

With The Pains of Being Pure At Heart getting ready to release a brand new album in 2011 to follow up their outstanding self-titled debut, one of our favorite indie pop groups from the NYC area has been touring around the nation. Luckily for us, one of these stops was at very own Echoplex last Friday. San Franciscan bands Sonny and The Sunsets and Weekend served as opening acts just before this five piece band brought forth their signature picturesque romanticism and power-pop indie rock anthems – all more than strong enough to get the weekend rolling.

So we count down the best albums of the year. Although there have been some great EPs and singles, this list includes only full-length albums that have been released in the US. Check our top 20 out below and let us know what you think!

Despite their name, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart doesn’t bring me pain at all! This NYC band has brought more joy to me than any other groundbreaking artists out there this year. Their boy/girl harmonies are the sweet sound of summer and their fuzzy guitars bring me fuzzy warm feelings to accompany the season. As a lover of indie pop, I’ve always been a big fan of catchy hooks that yield a dance party in my bedroom even if it’s just by my lonesome. POBPAH combines the great essence of pop and the distortion of today’s indie rock to satisfy my young sunshine-craving soul. So far, it’s more than safe to say that their self-titled album is my favorite record of 2009.
Check The Pains of Being Pure At Heart out in our BeatCrave Fav series below! We give you everything you could ever want to know (such as a million tour dates and an exclusive interview). Just remember to vote for them in tomorrow’s poll!
