Concert Picks: Lenka, The Raveonettes, Band of Skulls…

Friday, November 13, 2009 12:42PM - By Lindsey Darden

theraveonettes Concert Picks: Lenka, The Raveonettes, Band of Skulls...

Our picks of the East and West Coasts really have no rhyme or reason this go-round – not when it comes to their performances, of course, but when it comes to our having chosen them. You never know what might pique your interest. Check out our particular interests below:

  • Lenka | Friday, November 13 | 7:30 pm | $12 | 21+ | Mercury Lounge, New York, NY – Map | You’ve likely heard of her but you likely haven’t heard of her, either – the joy of subtle yet memorable music. The sultry Australian beauty/singer/actress whose tracks “Trouble is a Friend” and “The Show” from her 2008 self-titled debut have made their rounds on international television waves, will be sharing the evening with Colin Smith of Mr. North – Buy Tickets
  • The Raveonettes | Friday, November 13 | 8:30 pm | $20 | Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre, Hollywood, CA – Map | Three albums later and The Raveonettes relish in the wiggle room of style/genre they have bestowed upon themselves, which, aside from a fair night’s sleep, is one of the most important gifts a band could treat self to. The result is an edgy, forward-facing approach to rock in the form of recent release In and Out of Control – its track “Last Dance” possibly being more electric a track than expected. With the Crocodiles – Buy Tickets
  • The Holiday Electric | Saturday, November 14 | 7:00 pm | 21+ | Arlene’s Grocery, New York, NY – Map | For a local band, The Holiday Electric knows how to carry its weight with glittering, often optimistic-sounding tracks masquerading as anything but, especially when appearing on a bill of at least five other acts. Their recently released self-titled debut album is up for grabs for free or whatever you choose to donate on their Myspace; should you like, spread the word. Win Tickets To The Raveonettes Through Twitter

The Raveonettes love their fans. They really do. The Danish duo also loves Twitter. They’ve just released their album, In and Out of Control, on October 6 and they’re letting their fans get in on the experience again.

According to their MySpace, they would “like to invite you, our fans, to come see us for free and hang out backstage with us.” All they want from fans is a single tweet about what he or she thinks of as his/her “dream merchandise.”

All you have to do is:

Save the Date for Coachella 2010

Save The Date For Coachella 2010

Much like “Duck, duck, goose,” it also goes the same way for speculations and confirmations: “Rumor, rumor, fact.” We Internet geeks just eat this stuff up, so we want to throw another one at you.

As a side note to the unveiling of Stagecoach’s full line-up featuring country artists such as Keith Urban, Sugarland, and The Avett Brothers, Billboard has also confirmed our hunch by stating that Coachella 2010 will take place on the familiar grounds of Indio, California on April 16 – 18. This makes sense since the indie toting festival has repeatedly taken place one week before the country festival.

The Raveonettes Music Video: Last Dance

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 9:23PM - By Seraphina L.

The Raveonettes Music Video Last Dance

Does the “d” stand for Danish or dangerous? The Raveonettes are about to release, In and Out of Control, their latest album created with fan feedback and now streaming in its entirety on their MySpace before the official release date of October 6. They’ve also got a brand new video to pump you up before then and the track is no other than “Last Dance” which was available for download.

The visuals perfectly match the sound of the song as the surf-pop melodies are demonstrated with a cliche couple eating ice cream in front of picturesque backdrops. (The bubbles from the cover art also make an appearance.) However, the lyrics’ tone of “not-so-appropriate for prom” is also displayed through wild and outrageous adventures such as speeding down dead man’s curve on a motorcycle or recklessly driving a car on purpose.

How does this Danish duo do duality so well? Watch the video for yourself below and let us know what you think!

Stream The Raveonettes’ In and Out of Control

Stream The Raveonettes In and Out of Control

The new Raveonettes album isn’t officially released for two more weeks, but Foo and Wagner just shared via Twitter that you can listen to the entire album now!

With a few listens to it, it sounds like the pair has done it again. They’ve managed to perfectly combine raw, disturbing lyrics with light melodies which float just above the distortion. For instance, “Boys Who Rape” may sound cheerful at first but when you remember the title, the lyrics are not as friendly as you think.

The Raveonettes Not ‘Out of Control’ with Fan Feedback

Friday, September 18, 2009 8:36PM - By Seraphina L.

The Raveonettes Not Out of Control With Fan Feedback

Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner, aka The Raveonettes, are known for their tight-knit dual harmonies laid above hard-edged distortion and have managed to successfully combine dark, murky, noise rock with catchy surfer melodies since 2003.

Their latest album, In and Out of Control, is slated for an October 6 release via Vice Records. The album is highly anticipated since the band has let their fans in on the recording process. Although their request for feedback was criticized by some in the industry, The Raveonettes never needed to come to terms with how their fans felt vs. how they would execute the album… Continue Reading

A high-five from BeatCrave to The Raveonettes for understanding what a little social media initiative can do to get fans more involved in the process of producing a new album. The duo made an announcement via Twitter this week that they were releasing their first demo with the working title ‘Last Dance.’
