Lollapalooza‘s first day may have had Lady Gaga, but day 2 was jam packed with artists whether you were a huge electronica head, an indie rocker or Bayside ska kid. We knew we definitely had our day cut out for us but with Grant Park’s massive size for a festival, we must have walked miles as we rushed to see band after band.
Some big names that got us warmed up for the night’s headliners included Stars, Metric, Grizzly Bear, AFI, Spoon and more. We were able to support our Los Angeles bands such as Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Soft Pack (San Diego’s close enough), Dawes and more as well. However, the night ended with fireworks during Green Day, Phoenix and Empire of the Sun. Take a look at our day in photos below!

Just a stroll down from The Morning Benders was our neighbors from San Diego, The Soft Pack. For an early Lollapalooza set, the four-piece managed to rock a decent sized crowd from the very first note they played. There was no easing into it and they weren’t waiting for a massive crowd to tell them they were ready to play because they went head first into the set and never looked back.

The Soft Pack used to be called The Muslims but ignorance and comments of the idiotic variety forced a name change. One thing that never changed, however, was the rooted-in-punk garage-band vibe and cleverly produced sound of these San Diego boys. Like many indie bands, The Soft Pack is its best to maneuver the tricky world of the industry. Unlike the masses, however, The Soft Pack is doing it with gritty vocals and a sincere smile. After one listen, it’s hard not to appreciate the homegrown music and true talent of The Soft Pack. For that reason, we are happy to add them to our BeatCrave Fav family, even happier to share them with you. Enjoy!

San Diego-based The Soft Pack, who will be playing Coachella 2010, are releasing their latest self-titled album tomorrow and to celebrate they played a whopping ten shows all over Los Angeles on Saturday. We got caught up with them at the FMLY mansion in Venice where Sub Pop darlings and Long Beach natives, Avi Buffalo, played beforehand.
The setting outside was a perfect atmosphere filled with fans of all ages. We managed to get some great photos around 1:30 in the afternoon. Check them out below!
